Well, crap. I don't think there is really any way to spin this in a good way. ABC Family has cut the order for Middleman episodes from 13 to 12. That's rarely a good sign. Television history isn't exactly full of stories that go, "Then they cut the episode order, and everything was frickin' awesome." All is not lost though. Please join me in taking solace in the fact that the show hasn't actually been canceled.
A quick trip to Radio Free Javi, where you should go for all of your Grillo-Marxuachian news, tells a little more of the tale. As Javi puts it, the show is getting great reviews and the network loves it, but the ratings have not been stellar. He adds that the decision to drop the 13th episode was a joint one, between himself and the network. A possible silver lining is his mention of pooling their resources to make the finale the biggest and best that it can be. So, tell your friends to watch, and tell them to tell their friend with the Nielsen box to watch. The Middleman really is a good show and deserves to make it to a second season.

Why did they move it to 10:00! My family loves this show, but watch it on TiVo since they moved the time!

The show has gotten horrible reviews, and deserved them. I'm sorry, but so many good shows get canceled, and even OK shows get canceled that deserved a chance to improve, that I really can't get worked up for a shitty show getting canceled. Don't TV fans always get worked up that shows like Three and a Half Men and According to Jim always get renewed, while many good dramas are canceled before their prime. Well this show is the dramedy equivalent of According to Jim, and if it gets canceled, that will bring a little more balance into the TV universe, that is much needed. Hopefully ABC Family will learn from this debacle that they can't just throw any shit onto the airwaves and expect their young demographic to eat it up. I want to see more shows like Kyle XY, not the shit that is Middleman and the Teenager show that just started.

I really enjoy Middleman, but I've just come to the conclusion, if the ratings aren't there, your fav. show will be canceled.
It has happened too many times to me in just the past two years. So what will be, will be.
No need for petitions, complaining, or anything of that nature cause its gonna fall on deaf ears.

I really like this show and thinks it's pretty funny. TROUT! Anyway, I bet this is a show that will do a lot better on dvd than on tv.
I do think moving it to 10 has probably hurt the ratings and made it harder for people to find it, but I see why they did it. There's some talk that's definitely not family talk. Hopefully, since it's abc family and not a big network they'll give it another shot. I think I might like to see it paired with Kyle XY.

I've watched it, only because TV is devoid of scripted programming. The acting is a bit on the awful side. Same with that American Teen show. I really don't like overacting to the point of idiocy. This week's show, where the painter dude runs out of the show...ick. Made me question why I was still watching. Say goodbye to the middleman!

I want to like Middleman, there is so much potential there, but it just isn't good enough. I don't think it helps that the show seems creatively stuck between being a "kids" show and an edgy adult comedic drama. This is not to say that shows can't be for kids/families and be good but it just seems like they're somehow neutering it. That and the fx suck, and the stories aren't up to much.

Maybe because I remember 'Batman' in the sixties, is why I like this show. I like the campy quality, and in response to some of the comments, I think the acting is SUPPOSED to be a bit wooden. That's part of the joke. It isn't the X Files, it is a comedy. And I laugh.

I like this show, but wouldn't it reach a better audience on the SciFi channel?

I agree. I like it, but it has a lot of unexplored potential. In the first episode it nicely balanced adult humor with kid, forming a family-friendly balance. The 3rd show put it fully into the adult comedy camp. But, all the other episodes, despite mild nods, remain firmly in the kids hour. Plus, the first episode promised irony (recreating 2D 1960s type characters while respectfully poking fun at them), but all other eps (save #3) have kept the characters (i.e. MM) in the 2D role without any wink, nudge action.
While I believe the 10:00 hour has hurt it, tons of adult-oriented shows have done well on ABC Family i.e. Greek and The Heights, as well as adult-oriented movies with kids/older teens in mind i.e. Princess, the rom com winter movies. Keeping those in mind, I think MM can do what it wants, if it lets itself do so -

I think The Middleman is an excellent, excellent show. The campy style is done extremely well, especially with the Middle Man himself. He is very wooden, but done extremely well. If this show gets the can, I will be very, very upset.
