"hey, how's that alien invasion thing coming?"

Wow great. I have to tell a TV critic to "relax, it's just a movie".

I mean seriously. If YOU were to find out there's an alien invasion going on how could you get past that ridiculous bee-sting to prevent those two from kissing? My brain almost exploded when I saw that in the first movie.

Small hint: there were two additional seasons after the first movie. So maybe you want to pick those up and watch them to find out how they managed to cover non-invasion topics eight friggin years ago to find out whether it's an issue or not.

Aside from that I want a Californication movie. With boobies. Boobies always make me forget about plot-holes.

You know, they explained the entire mytharc twice during the series run.

I also don't trust any negative reviews since so many people seem to been hating on this movie without seeing pretty much anything.

And as much as I love The X-Files after watching the entire series over the last two months I am glad that they decided to go with a standalone story. The conspiracy stories just weren't as strong in the latter years.

The only gripe I have is that Fox decided to release this movie right after The Dark Knight, it would have been more appropriate as an October release.

You mean the mythology arc that all but devoured the show and made it unwatchable? I understand why it was necessary, interesting, and ultimately called out for a more satisfying conclusion, but I'm actually glad they're going the standalone route. I'd be just as glad to pretend the entire last season of the show never happened.

I tend to agree, but in order to "push another movie into production" I think they had to get away from the X-files main arc. Most casual XF fans barely cared about that arc at the end of the show, never mind 10 years later. The hardcore fans (those that haven't turned on the show) will be there no matter what, but they will need those casual fans to hand over some cash in order to ensure the neXt-Files.

I was a fan of the series and watched it till the end. I saw the movie as well. This upcoming movie only leaves me with the feeling of "meh".

If it's on cable one day in the future, I will probably watch it.

'Stand alone is going to suck, stand alone is going to suck'. That's all I hear from everyone. Hello? Don't you recall that some of the best episodes from the series were standalone? "Home", "Humbug", just to name two classic episodes. For a group of fans who complain that the mythology got too wrapped up in itself, now you complain that the second has nothing to do with the mythology? Go watch "Lost", I'm going to the movies.

i was a huge fan of x-files. but this movie looks very disappointing.

i would of been more interested if this movie was released is 2001.

i'll wait until they show it on cable...the end.

I prefer the stand alone stories. I quit watching the X-Files when the alien conspiracy became the driving force behind the show. I didn't see the first X-Files movie because it dealt with the alien conspiracy. Knowing that this one is NOT about aliens makes me much more interested in seeing the movie.

In other words, I wasn't planning to see it before but now I will. Yeah stand alones!!!!!

It's about a snow monster that lives dormant under the ice and then infects people through their feet when they walk over it, taking over their bodies and making their eyes bleed, and then jumping to other people and making them commit crimes (with bleeding eyes) and and so on and so forth, and if it's not captured by mulder and scully it will kill the human race.

The problem with The X-Files was that Chris Carter received too much credit for it's success. The X-Files was truly a collaborative effort. Yes, Carter was the creator. However, he was surrounded by some ungodly writing and directing talent. David Nutter, who directed the pilot, has a scary good track record when it comes to getting pilots picked up. The other main writers during the first four seasons were Howard Gordon, Glen Morgan, James Wong, Darin Morgan, and Vince Gilligan. All you have to do it look at IMDB profiles to see their genius: Howard Gordon has been a writer and producer on 24 the past six seasons; Glen Morgan and James Wong created the short-lived Space: Above and Beyond and were the main writers of Carter's "other" series, Millenium; Darin Morgan won the X-files sole writing Emmy; Vince Gilligan is the creator of Breaking Bad and wrote the screenplay for Hancock.

Howard Gordon, both Morgan brothers, and Wong did not write a single episode of the X-Files after the fourth season. Is it a coincidence that the series began to decline after they left? No. They were that instumental to it's existance.

Umm, how can that be when absolutely no one [other than Chris Carter and maybe two-three other people] has seen the film? Seriously only one, ONE, scene has been release to be shown on talk shows such as Jay Leno. Are these reviewers you’re talking about clairvoyants? Can they determine the quality of an entire film based on one scene? Wow. Maybe they are the subject of an X-File and should have a movie made about them.

As for the myth arc, assuming this movie truly is a stand alone story (again no one has seen it so how do we really know? Chris C. and company could be pulling a fast one on us) I think the idea is to have it be as interesting and enjoyable for the masses as for the diehard fans. Then (assuming it makes enough at the box office) do another film dealing more with the myth-arc. If you recall from the TV show the aliens are suppose to come back in 2012. I was at WonderCon in February when Chris Carter was asked about this and he said he was well aware of that date [wink, wink]. It wouldn’t surprise me if this “stand alone” transitions into the myth-arc at some point during the film. After all, that use to happen quite often on the show. Sometimes there would be one or two scenes in a stand alone that connected to the over all arc in a major way. Why can’t that happen here?

And yes, relax! It’s just a movie – a summer movie. It’s supposed to be a fun some what light hearted bit of entertainment. Not the cure for cancer or aids or the capturing of Bin Laden. Hmm, now that would be a twist. Mulder and Scully capturing Bin Laden and handing him over to the aliens.

Well, X-Files did it before them - only with oil. ;D

And that might very well be oil coming form Connolly's eyes (everyone is assuming it's blood without having seen the film) and *that* would be a connection to the myth-arc.

It's great that so many people are even talking about this movie eight years after the series 'ended'. But remember that Chris Carter merely revised the old series form the 1970's, KOLCHAK THE NIGHT STALKER. So if this reminds you of anything else, then that particular genre of films and TV shows will continue. Good or bad, at least they keep trying. Look at the STARGATE movies coming out this year : ARK OF TRUTH and CONTINUM , at least we get more. I WANT TO BELIEVE, good or bad, will still be on my list of favorites that keep trying to please.
