Secret Diary of a Call Girl: Episode 1-06

Billie Piper is Belle de Jour(S01E06) Let's start with the very end of tonight's Secret Diary of a Call Girl. The previews from next week look insane! I shall even resort to using tweeny-internet speak here as I declare "ZOMG!" about next Monday's episode. Ben and Hannah are taking their already unusual relationship to a whole other level of weird.

But that is a whole week away, I know. I'll quit now and save my commentary for next time. Tonight's episode of SDCG was another good one, much like last week's. Once again the show mixed stories about Hannah's personal life and relationships with her exploits as a London prostitute. As I mentioned last week, when the show gives equal attention to both these aspects of Hannah's / Belle's character, it is truly entertaining.

However, SDCG took a long time getting to this point. I fear that some people may have given up on the show after episodes 1-02 and 1-03 failed to deliver. What do you think?

I loved that this episode followed up on last week's exploration of Ben and Hannah's new friendship. I say "new" because things clearly changed a lot when Hannah revealed what she does for a living. Now I'm wondering when they'll both come clean about how much they love each other. Ben told Hannah about his engagement. Hannah told Ben she's a whore. But they've both yet to admit that they're in love.

Then again, if Ben and Hannah were to get together, do you think he'd make her give up the sex trade? He's more comfortable with it each week, I know. Moreover, I think he realized that he job does indeed make her happy. I think we saw that as they sat at her kitchen table eating chips and drinking Champagne. Ben joked about how he could get over her love for Marmite (yuck, that stuff is nas-TEE!) so he could certainly accept her profession. However, right now they are just friends. If they were lovers, it might be a whole different set of expectations.

We also got some more insight into Hannah's relationship with Stephanie. I like that they are giving Cheri Lunghi's character some more substance. It was inconsiderate and downright dangerous how Stephanie sent that nut over to Belle's apartment int he middle of the night. (I suppose I should use the term "flat," but I always feel stupid using that. When other Americans use "flat," I always make a note-to-self about how freaking pretentious it sounds. Done with the tangential rant now.) But anyway, I loved that it showed Stephanie's greed and I loved Hannah standing up to her at the end.

This episode was very funny, too. I listed a few of my favorite lines, exchanges below:

Ben: So have you gone back to being an amateur?
Hannah: Temporarily.
Ben: Is that just so you can have sex in the Olympics?
Hannah: Only if the government covers all my training costs.

Stephanie: Well, you know when they said, all publicity is good publicity?
Hannah: Yeah.
Stephanie: They lied.

Tim: You're not really a legal secretary are you?
Hannah: Pardon?
Tim: Well, I mean, c'mon. Who do you think you're kidding? All those massage oils in the bathroom. Any person who would need all that is a professional ... You're a masseuse.

And now, a shallow poll...

Do you think Billie Piper should wear a bra more often?
