After I posted about what CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said about Moonlight the other day -- namely that the campaign to save it was "actor-driven" instead of show-driven -- angry comments came in from all the "loyal" fans of the show out there (I put the word "loyal" in quotes because Moonlight fans make the Jericho fans look cool and collected). Most of those fans said that Tassler was a liar. One even went so far to attach the b-word to his invective. You'd have thought that Tassler drained these people's 401(k)'s and skipped off to Central America.Anyway, I caught up with Tassler at the CBS party that night, and I told her about the comments I was getting. When I speculated that I didn't even think the Jericho fans were that passionate, she retorted, "I think they were. The Jericho fans ... I spent a lot of time looking the blogs and the website. Look, I don't want to say Moonlight fans weren't fans of the show. They were. But in sort of sifting through all of it (the e-mails, etc.) it was very much about 'our vampire, Alex (O'Laughlin).'" When I mentioned that some of the comments were pretty ugly, she just looked at me and said, "It's not a pretty business."

Jericho fans weren't passionate??? I beg to differ, there, friend. From day one, I wrote CBS, telling them what a great show it was, thanking them for having it, and, because I know how networks are, begged them to keep it. And yes, I was part of the NUTS campaign. In addition to that, I continued to write CBS. When Jericho came back, I continued to write and thank them, for giving us a second season, short though it was. Jericho meant something to us. It could happen. It showed exactly how people would act; what life would be. Ok, life would be a LOT worse, but you get my drift. We STILL care. We still wish.

Wow. I sense that there's going to be a street fight between "Jericho" fans and "Moonlight" fans one of these days.

How has this woman kept her job for this long?! Just how many e-mails did she sift through...a handful? Of course, we mentioned AOL in our e-mails. We also mentioned how we love the ENTIRE cast, the writing, the sets, the costumes, the music, etc. Why is she leaving all of this out of her comments?!

Whoops. I misread the headline. Thought this was about David and Maddie. You know. That other show with the word "Moonlight" in the title.
Nevermind. You can go back to your indignation now.

Ms Tassler is, to put it politely, incorrect, when she thinks the fans are actor-centric and not show-centric. The fans love the show as a whole because of the fantastic chemistry between ALL the actors. If she thinks she hasn't had much mail on the subject of Moonlight, then she needs to speak with the folks in the CBS mailroom, because they're not getting it all to her.
She's trying to create some buzz for her faltering CSI franchise by throwing Alex O'Loughlin's name into the mix.
Well, she created some buzz, alright...but perhaps not the kind of buzz she was hoping for amongst the fans of Moonlight.
I'm truly sorry that some people were upset to the point of using vulgar words in their response to her words, however this just shows how passionate we are, and continue to be, about our show. Nina suggested the day the show's cancellation was announced that Moonlight "had" (her word) a passionate fan base.
Well, Nina, we still ARE passionate about our show. And the Tribe aren't going anywhere.

Moonlight fans spent the entire season partnering with CBS to help promote and support the show. It is insulting to be dismissed as squeeing fan girls, and not given even a thank you from CBS for being loyal and supportive fans of Moonlight.
All season,we encouraged members of our fan base to send polite and professional correspondence to network executives including Nina, to thank them for bringing us the show, and to tell them how much we loved Moonlight. Yes, we told them that we loved MOONLIGHT. We did not just send correspondence about Alex.
We contacted our show sponsors and thanked them on a regular basis, and spent a good amount of time posting positive and professional comments on many of the celebrity entertainment web sites such as tvguide, THR, and eonline.
On our largest Moonlight fan boards, we had designated areas where we posted campaign strategy, links to poll and survey questions about Moonlight, information about fan based blood drive and food drive campaigns, and encouraged our members to help to build the fan base by contacting friends, family, and other associates on and offline.
We were doing all of this while members of the press were calling us "crazy", and making fun of our interest in the show. They did not take the time to really get to know Moonlight fans, but relied on old and tired jokes and insults.
We set ourselves apart from other fan base groups by choosing not to rely on the old "save our show" tactics. We chose not to send garlic, fangs and other garbage to Nina, and we helped to bring new fans to the show weekly, which helped CBS win the hour on Friday nights at 9 pm
We endured a writers strike, a hiatus and behind the scenes turmoil, but came back in force weekly to the tune of a good 8 million viewers to watch each new episode.
When I read comments by Nina about Moonlight fans, I am disappointed that she really did not give us the respect we earned and deserved as consumers of her product, and as the desirable demographic that we represented for her show sponsors.
Yes, fans are very fond of Alex O'Loughlin. He is a talented actor, but I think based on all of the correspondence sent to CBS all season, Nina knows that fans were equally fond of every other cast member as well.
We helped CBS in the ratings, and it would be nice to be treated with respect. It would be very nice for someone associated with the show to offer a heartfelt thank you to all of the Moonlight fans who stuck with them all season.

Moonlight fans have been very passionate, and I remember the rush Jericho fans made with their nuts campaign. The two shows are very different, and I was a fan of Moonlight. I didn't watch it just because Alex O'Loughlin was attractive. I watched it because it was a good show that dealt with vampires in a new way. That interested me, and it kept me tuning in.

So, Nina Tassler has read plenty of blogs & e-mails, which led her to come to the conclusion about us Moonlight fans were only "actor-centric", namely, Alex O'Loughlin!! Well, I don't buy that at all. There are numerous, active Moonlight sites, and I can assure Ms. Tassler that we blog about EVERYTHING related to Moonlight, not just Alex alone. I have written letters, e-mailed, and telephoned to Ms. Tassler & Mr. Moonves before & after the cancellation of Moonlight. My praises were more emphasized on the show itself than on Alex alone. Yes, entertainment is not a pretty business. However, SMART business decision is expected from the President of CBS, Nina Tassler. The cancellation of Moonlight was certainly NOT a smart business decision!!!

Let me get this straight. Of the 16 episodes that aired, if memory serves me right, there was no episode that was Jason-centric and even in the one that was mildly Sophia-centric, Alex was in most of the scenes. On a show like CSI, sometimes Grissom does not even appear. On Moonlight, Mick is always there. To turn this into the fans being actor-centric is a bit disingenuous.

Do you know how to tell when Nina Tassler is lying? Her lips are moving. I am going to start sending 'Fire Nina' letters to CBS before she cancels the last 3 shows that I watch on that channel.

The more I reflect on the actor-driven or actor-centric comments, the less sense they make. Jericho and Moonlight are two totally different type shows. Jericho had a very large cast whereas Moonlight has three (or four) main characters and the show revolved around them. Fans have been asking CBS to renew Moonlight. They haven't been saying "Who cares about Moonlight. I just want to see more of these actors." They are talented actors and I hope their careers thrive, but for right now we want Moonlight back with the same cast.

I'm confused here... I know, I'm a die-hard (make that immortal) Moonlight fan so that's a given, right Nina? I would like to know what difference it makes to the business end of CBS if 8 million viewers tune in week after week ,through strike and hiatus, to watch Moonlight because of the genre, the whole cast and the storyline...or if 8 million viewers tune in ,through strike and hiatus ,to watch Alex as Mick St John? My Moonlight fuddled brain can't tell the difference between 8 million loyal fans, and 8 million loyal fans....Is this another example of MoonlightMath?

It certainly is NOT a pretty business. Not when you backstab, lie and cheat to make it in Hollywierd. This woman is still lying and making fun of the millions of Moonlight fans. She's been spitting in our faces for months now. My correspondence to CBS in regards to Moonlight focused on my love for the SHOW and that means everything about it. She obviously didn't read the mail she received.
We need to change the system too. Nielsen ratings are outdated and false, yet TV shows live and die by their incorrect numbers.

I dont know why people keep comparing us to Jericho fans. Yes we are both fighting for a show we love and I give major credit to the Jericho fans as an inspiration to Moonlight viewers. They've supported us and have been very generous.
As to Nina's remarks, if you have get the opportunity to speak with her again, tell her she should have read all the mail not just a few. Also as a great blogger who never seen Moonlight said unless Alex is a vampire in real life asking for their favorite vampire isn't asking for the person Alex but the character Mick St. John. Now I give Alex credit for making Mick so enjoyable to watch but I have to tell you its the ensemble cast that kept me going back time after time. I watched the first episode as a lark, during it Mick looked at Beth as if she was the only woman in the entire world. I was like wow. Sophia Myles was absolutly awesome at bringing the viewer into the relationship with Mick, becoming the avatar for everyone woman that watched the show. Almost every quotable line in the show was given by Jason Dohring. He stole every scene he was in as Mick's vamp mentor. Its a discredit to the entire cast and shows that Nina never really watched the show to dismiss them.
There has been talk about Alex going to CSI, I like Alex but I want my Mick. I also expect a company I give business to will treat me with respect and value my business. CBS has not done this so I will go elsewhere. I have blocked the channel and will not unblock it unless Moonlight returns as a tv movie or mini-series if not the series itself. I am 39 yrs old and I know what I want. I want Moonlight not just Alex O'Loughlin.
