The Emmy nominations will be announced tomorrow morning at 8:30am, and I'll be live-blogging the announcement, so come back here at that time for all the news. Well, actually, you won't have to "come back here" if you never leave, right? So please keep TV Squad open in a separate window as you do the rest of your web surfing and keep hitting refresh for the latest news. Thank you.
I'm sure a lot of the usual suspects will be in the mix when they announce the nominees: Lost, House, Desperate Housewives, The Wire, Hugh Laurie, Boston Legal, etc. But there are several shows and actors that I'm really pulling for and should get nominations, if the world is fair. My list after the jump.
If Mad Men isn't nominated, then the Emmys need to go away. But it will be of course. Also expect to see Lost and House on the list ,too -- but if there's any justice in the world and they're actually going by quality, there's no way Mad Men can lose.
I think Entourage will probably get a nomination, though I don't think it had it's best season. I hope that 30 Rock, The Office, and Family Guy get one though.
Jon Hamm is a shoo-in for Mad Men. Hugh Laurie will be nominated again, along with Michael C. Hall for Dexter and James Spader for Boston Legal. Not sure about the other spot, though I think Bryan Cranston has some buzz for Breaking Bad. I'd like to see Denis Leary here too, for Rescue Me. (What, no Jeffrey Donovan for Burn Notice?)
Michael Emerson not only deserves to be nominated for his portrayal of Ben on Lost, he also deserves to win. Though I wouldn't mind if Mad Men's John Slattery took home the award. (Bruce Campbell should also be here for Burn Notice, though he's more of a comic actor in the role the show is categorized as a drama.)
I hope Tina Fey will get a nomination for 30 Rock, and she probably will. I have no idea which of those Desperate housewives will get an award. They all seem to cancel each other out, though I'm sure one or two will get a nod. And what's with this show being in the comedy category? We still list it as a drama here, and I think it makes more sense in that category for some reason.
Best Supporting Actor/Actress - Comedy
Everyone on 30 Rock and The Office should be nominated, though the ones that actually are in the semifinals and have a chance are Jenna Fischer, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer, and Tracy Morgan.
Why isn't Mad Men's January Jones on the list? It's great to see Elisabeth Moss here, though I wonder if her role is more supporting than lead?
Best Supporting Actress - Drama
I would nominate every single supporting actress on Mad Men. Only Christina Hendricks is a semifinalist, and it would be really cool if she walked up on stage. I'd also like to see Sharon Gless get a nom for Burn Notice.

Jericho was pretty good, but Mad Men was far and away the best drama of this past year. Lost being second. House shouldn't even get a nod this year, not nearly as consistent as before, though I appreciate them trying something new. Can't argue with BBT, but I think I enjoyed 30 Rock a little more. And The Office was still pretty strong overall too.
Hopefully this won't a trainwreck. Some great shows are going to get ignored, no doubt, but hopefully some more new blood is going to be mixed in as well.

I so wish somebody would throw Jim Parsons into the mix for comedy.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention Jonathan Rhys Meyers for his portrayal of Henry VIII in Showtime's production of The Tudors. If there's anyone who deserves an Emmy for their performance, it is he.

Enough with the "Mad Men" love-fest. I watched a few episodes to see what all the hype was about, and boy was it an impressive letdown.
So uh, guys were quite overtly sexist in the workplace back in the day. That seems to be the entire plot of the show? I do not understand why so many critics find this interesting... bah.
Give me The Wire or Dexter or any of a dozen shows long before Mad Men.

I think Lost deserves Best Drama for coming back after 1.5 mediocre seasons (only the 1st part of season 3 was mediocre the rest was great) and delivering great episode after great episode. Damages will also get nominations. In fact I think Glen Close will get best actress in a drama. In terms of comedy its hard to pick but I think the Office will pull a win again. Greys Anatomy will get some nominations, despite not deserving any this year.

Contrary to the commentary by Ryan, MAD MEN is very deserving of the accolades it receives. It's a great show, much better than crap like Boston Legal (jumped the shark a long time ago). I hope Mad Men gets it's fair share of Emmys, and if those Emmy judges have a lick of common sense, it will!

I Mad Men think there Mad Men is an underlying theme Mad Men to Bob's Mad Men post but Mad Men I'm Mad Men having some Mad Men trouble Mad Men figuring out Mad Men what it Mad Men is.
If nothing else I did take away one thing from this post. I really should take the time to watch the show I've never seen before I comment on it. To that end, I think I will. I promise to try and catch up on Burn Notice.

I think I gotta give Best Comedy to either Big Bang Theory (I swore off 'four-camera sitcoms' but it's so well-written) or Flight of the Conchords (just hilarious).
But does anyone else find the comedy scene so mundane since Arrested Development went off the air? Everything else (Office, Scrubs etc.) just seem so bland and slow-paced since watching that show.

Since when is The Wire considered one of the usual suspects? Sadly it's never been nominated.

the wire deserved it for season 4, give it a make up win for the final season - it wouldn't be the first time ... oh wait, it WOULD be the first win for the wire (but not the first time a makeup award was given).
i loved madmen and most of this seasons lost episodes but the wire needs some love. got them green house gases!

Best actress drama: Jennifer Beals
Best Show: The L Word
This show has continually been over looked. I know it's not because it's on cable, as The Sporanos, Dexter, Weeds, Curb our Entusiasm, Entourage etc. have all been nominated. Maybe someone should take a look at this show, aw well.

Your choices are pretty good. I'm a big fan of many of them. Mad Men especially. Too big a fan of the original The Office, to get into the U.S. version though. But I would put The Wire and all it's actor's young and old up against anyone or any drama on your list. By the way, The Wire isn't one of the usual suspects. It's routinely and shamefully ignored.
