America's Got Talent: Episode 305

America's Got Talent
(S03E05) "You keep singing like that, you are going to be all by yourself." - The Hoff to Michelle

Another week of America's Got Talent, another series of bad and good acts. I can't wait for the Vegas Callback episodes because the audition process is getting a tad long for me. We still have at least two episodes of auditions, one featuring the MySpace acts, before we start getting down to serious business and let our voice be heard. Until then, we have to listen to Michelle's voice...

Michelle, singer - As soon as I saw the quantity of makeup she had put on, I knew this was going to be a bad act. This was confirmed when I heard her demand the crowd to be on their feet. Getting people to participate is good, but her voice when she made the request was not best, so I had a hunch that her performance would be so-so. After about five seconds of singing, The Hoff rightfully Xed Michelle. It was surprising to see Piers wait so long before Xing the performer. Usually, he is really fast at pressing his X button.

Bruce Block - Bruce is one of those few contestants from previous seasons who got a second chance at impressing the judges. Last year, Bruce made it to Vegas but his assistant bailed out. Sadly for him, the act he performed instead wasn't good enough to secure him a spot in the next stage of the contest. Based on what he did last year, and the fact that he probably watched the rest of the show and/or got better at his art, I expected Bruce to perform an entertaining act this time around. It wasn't bad but it wasn't enough. Based solely on this week, Bruce didn't deserve to move on. His singing assistant stole the show when Bruce was supposed to be the star. However, based on what he did last year and this week's act, I could have seen him move on. He is an entertainer who has more than one trick up his sleeves and could probably put on a full show for Vegas compared to some of the performers who were voted through to Vegas and have acts that can barely last 10 minutes.

Dorae, Tina Turner - When I first saw Dorae, I was pretty sure that this act was not going to be the best. The hair and makeup was a bit too fake for my taste. The way the performer was introduced, I was pretty sure there was going to be real singing. So when the act started, I was impressed by the voice, moves, mimics, etc. But when Piers talked with Dorae, it was mentioned that it was a lipsync act. Did the performer really sing or not? In any case, Dorae offered a good Tina Turner performance and deserved to get a ticket to Vegas.

Dallas Desperados - Even before they set foot on stage, it was pretty much a given that this group would go through to the next round. Beautiful women wearing sexy outfits always have more chances on this type of show. Of course, if their act had been terrible, chances would have been that they would have stayed in Texas. The dance routine was energetic, fast, and entertaining. The women had good timing and worked well together. However, if they want to move on further, they'll need to add some acrobatics to their routine.

Xclusive - This was a cool performance. Not only was it entertaining and unique, but the soundtrack was fantastic. The performer's move were timed to the music and sounds. It was an unusual and creative performance. As Sharon said, this could become a sort of play where Xclusive and other performers tell a story with robotic moves and a cool soundtrack.

Barry - WTF? He practiced to give such a performance and he wasn't able to at least bark as a dog would? Plus, writing your act on a piece of paper to remember what you have to do is a big faux pas.

Donny, singer - I don't get why the crowed booed him at first. Yes, Donny is no Josh Groban but he sang the song with a lot of heart and was in tuned. I found it a bit fake when all of the sudden, after the song picked up, the crowd changed its mind and cheered him on. I even pondered, while watching the episode, if someone from production was on stage and told them to applaud at that point. What do you think?

Note to the contestants to be: If someone tells you that they get chills and cry when hearing you sing, it doesn't necessarily mean that you are a good singer.

What did you guys think of ZOOperstars? It was a silly act that was also entertaining. I wasn't impressed much at first but when they started jumping upside down and all, I changed my mind. Would you pay to see ZOOperstars in Vegas?

Note: Due to some issues with the site earlier today, I've had to rewrite half of this post. Therefore, if you've read it before now, it is possible you notice some changes in the content and the wording.

What was your favorite act of the week?
