(S04E05) Weeds turned a corner with this episode. This week marked the true beginning of Nancy's new life. She owned up to her mistakes, made amends to her friends and family, and admitted the obvious: she was a lousy drug dealer. While it took Nancy several seasons to realize the truth about herself, Guillermo figured it out in a few episodes and gave her a new job.
I never thought it would happen, but I finally respect Nancy Botwin. Her reunion with Celia was awesome, especially considering that the old Nancy was a babbling ditz when she was held at gunpoint last season. She's come a long way. Who would have guessed that her newfound strength would lead her to a job in retail? I was just as confused as Nancy when Guillermo offered her the Maternity World managerial position, and I was certainly not expecting the tunnel. I'm more than willing to accept this strange turn of events since it brought Demian Bichir into our lives. Then again, I'll go along with any bizarre plot twist when there's a hot guy involved (take note, Lost writers).
How relieved are you that Andy didn't go to Davenport, Iowa? Like Nancy, Andy got in touch with his inner bad-ass and took control of the coyote situation. He shot the coyote, freed the misinformed fisherman and the marzipan lady, and reclaimed his Fall Guy belt buckle. I'm glad that Nancy gave Andy credit for being an important part of the family. Her apology at dinner was such a great moment for her character. Accountability and honesty have never been among Nancy's good qualities. I expected her to put all the blame for her troubles on Celia again, but she surprised me.
The best part of Nancy's speech was her apology to Shane. More than anyone else, Shane has gotten a raw deal. He's been expressing his needs to his mother very clearly, and she's ignored him repeatedly. He's a kid dealing with issues that most adults don't even face. I hope Nancy lives up to her promises and gives Shane more quality time; he deserves it. Our little boy is growing, up though. He was smart enough to ask for a cut of Silas' pot-growing enterprise. Someone needs to be the brains of that operation.
Was the Roy Till resolution too easy? Nancy made short work of Till's threats and saved Celia in record time. He didn't put up much of a fight, so he's probably gone for now. I didn't have time to question this development, though, because Nancy's closing comments were so perfect. She's making "a killing" like she wanted by going through the motions as a maternity shopgirl. It's her worst nightmare, but she looked content when she was telling Till about her typical day. Nancy set things right with everyone in her life and is no longer in over her head. Yet.
My favorites lines of the episode:
- "Sh*t, that's not a clean knife." --Andy's reaction to the knife being held to his throat.
- "In the drive-thru at Popeye's I found myself saying 'Family Combo, please.' And it was a moment of clarity." --Nancy
- Andy's outgoing voicemail greeting.
Next week--Nancy gets abducted and meets the unbelievably hot Demian Bichir, who offers her a spanking. Now that's good television!

Nancy's got balls. How hot and cool, and unbelievably hot, was it when Nancy stuck that gun in Celia's mouth, then knocked her tooth out. Nancy is such a bad ass when she is wronged.
This is such a good show!

As we've seen before, nothing stays stable in Nancy's life for too long...and it wouldn't make much sense for this show to be called Weeds if it's main focus wasn't on Nancy and her pot dealings.
Something is going to happen to ruin her life, and I can not wait to see what.
We're not even half way through this season. It does kind of sound exactly like where Nancy was last season though, this time of the season. Free from immediate stress and the future looks bright for her...but...
I hope the show continues to stray away from the problems of season 3.

Also, am I the only one who really felt like there was something missing in this episode with no more Albert Brooks?
I miss him already.
Is Kat or Sanjay ever coming back?
And I really hope Doug doesn't end up with a more minor role now.

Did anyone catch Nancy's long monologue at the end of the show when she was talking about her job? I loved it but only caught some of it! Something about "I go to the drawer, take my brain out, and put my name tag on." If anyone caught the whole thing word for word I would love to have it!

For me, Weeds has become a much better series this year. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but I think it has really hit its stride--which is amazing considering that it is the 4th season.

Have you ever seen the first two seasons? At all?
I'm astounded with your comment. This show has been on a downward slide, although I have to admit that the last two episodes were ok. Much better than the beginning of this season or the ENTIRE season 3.
But to say that you prefer this season to the first two? Hmmm...

I think that the show finally found it's legs again. The past 4 episodes were aimless and painful to watch. Hopefully Grandpa's (Albert Brooks) plane crashed so we never have to revisit his plot line again.

GREAT episode! This is what this show is all about. Love the storefront and how she pistol-whipped Celia. I'm not sure if Till is totally off of her yet, the didn't show him agree to leave her completely alone and he is a DEA agent, so he won't just ignore her connections to Guillermo. Love the introduction of the new character and this development really opens the doors up for a lot of new storylines.

I really missed Albert Brooks. I thought that not only was he great but he brought out a deeper side of Andy and the two boys. Last night felt more like the one dimensional
Weeds from last season
