Leave it to Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert to tackle the tough issues, to tame the tiger, to take on all comers, to invite the biggest, loudest, richest mouth in radi... Oh? You mean, it's not that Rush? That's right. The Colbert Report has booked Rush to appear Wednesday night (11:30 PM/EST). That's Rush the band, not Rush Limbaugh, the radio yapper. Limbaugh would no doubt have been the butt of countless jibes -- assuming he would even submit to the possibility of being kidded -- but he's not coming on the show.
Rush, the Canadian band, will not have to worry about Colbert's rapier wit. They're coming on the show to sing.
This is a real feather in the cap for The Colbert Report. Rush has not appeared on American TV in over 30 years, and they're going to perform "Tom Sawyer," their most-famous song.
Stephen C. has been embracing the music this summer. In addition to Rush, Nas is going to perform on July 23, Toby Keith on July 28, and Crosby, Stills and Nash (no Young -- although he has appeared in the past on the show) on July 30.
Is this a trend away from comedy for The Colbert Report or just injecting some variety into the format? I think it's the latter, and as long as I like the musical act, I'm okay with it.

Maybe Stephen really IS segue-ing into that variety format he talked about last night, "The Stephen Colbert Show." Next thing up--plate spinners!!

I Think Stephen is allowing the possibility to be considered for the Conan O'Briens seat. Leno's days are counted for his self-imposed retirement, and unless NBC pulls another stunt like the last time, O'Brian gets the show leaving an opening. It's hard to picture Colbert as mainstream host but then again...we have seen weirder things on tv haven't we?

Dear Mr. Colbert,
Do you really want to tackle a tough issue? We have seen the oil prices all but dessimate what's left of the airline industry, and surburban sprawl (with its partially-leased, cookie-cutter "strip malls" and multifamily dwellings) overrun the open spaces of beautiful, grass or paved general aviation airports. We each need to do our little part to support the dream of flight for our children and children's children.
Steve Colbert, please consider helping us promote our midwest activity, the Indianapolis Air Show (which is not really located in Indianapolis, but rather, a small field in Mount Comfort - another victim of "Big City").
Besides, I know you are a supporter of the arts - so, please consider the worthy cause of some aeronautical acrobatic arts.
Please check out my Blog - and - the link underneath. Then, respond to me at your earliest convenience. This is a bit *time-sensitive*, since the Indy Air Show occurs August 22 - 24, 2008!

If you do decide to run with this news on the air, please give full credit to not only the poor saps who run the air show, of which I count myself, but more importantly Zack "Legend" (Ultimate Colts Fan - from the official Indianapolis Colts web site) and "Billy" from "Grayout Aerosports"
Sponsorship of Grayout Aerosports would also be appreciated, but I am in no way related to that business. Thank you for your time and consideration.
