I would even hesitate to call Buffy The Vampire Slayer a superhero. Yeah, she has incredible fighting powers and goes up against various monsters and evildoers, but it's really odd to see her name next to superheroes such as Batman, The Flash, Superman, and Captain America.
But according to readers of Redeye, she's a better superhero than The Dark Knight. (Yup, it's another character showdown over at Redeye.)
The showdown is in the sweet sixteen round right now, and Buffy is leading Batman. Other match-ups in this round include Superman vs. Captain America, Wonder Woman vs. The Thing, The Flash vs. Silver Surfer, Spider-Man vs. The Punisher, Iron Man vs. Green Lantern, Wolverine vs. Daredevil, and The Hulk vs. Kitty Pryde.
Buffy is the only TV character left in the competition. In fact, looking at past rounds, I think she was the only TV-centric character (now also in comic book form) in the whole competition.
Even if she somehow beats Batman, I don't see how she'll beat Superman or Spider-Man.

Well, I hear Batman isn't a superhero, just a rich dude in leather... so, yeah, go Buffy!

I completely agree!
I mean come on... "she has incredible fighting powers and goes up against various monsters and evildoers" is that not the definition of superhero?!

What about Xena? Don't get me wrong really like Buffy but Xena could kill gods. She also came back from the dead a zillion times.

Buffy is absolutely a superhero! I think the title sounds strange because she's a newer character, and because she wasn't created by Marvel or DC. But by definition -- "a hero, often possessing extraordinary or even magical powers" -- Buffy is definitely a superhero. And way more badass than Batman.

Oh my god, Buffy is the better superhero. She brings the hotness, funny, and angst that the Dark Knight pales in comparison

Hmm, I hesitate to call Buffy a superhero, too, primarily based on sensibility (clothing, advertisement, etc.). While they're similar in angst and Buffy has the cool factor (then again so does the Dark Knight), I feel the Dark Knight's broody anger, ingenuity and borderline psychotic rages (depending on who writes him) gives him the tip-

I love Buffy but I would put my money on Batman (even Batman over Superman).

OBVIOUSLY I am a Whedon fan (!), but this is somewhat nonsense. Whedonites tend to mob any online voting that involves anything to do with our boy or any character or actor in any wheedon production. Ever. The guy that catered the third season of Buffy could become Mayor of Los Angeles if the right websites were notified.
The poll is meaningless except as a bragging right unless you also inspire and mobilize the Batfans, of which there are legion. Whedonites do a lot of online promotional work, but Batfans pay good money to see their boy on screens and in books. Ask Joss about the Serenity box office take sometime, and you may watch a grown man cry.

This is very silly. Batman is top 4 all time, easy:
In no particular order
1. Captain America
2. Superman
3. Spiderman
4. Batman
Any other Superhero in that fight would be kidding themselves.

I don't know how Captain America got past Captain Marvel, actually. Captain America is merely a human, albeit one at the peak level of human development. Captain Marvel has the powers of gods, demigods, and Titans and was shown to be an equal match for Superman in Kingdom Come.
Then again, Batman gave Superman a thorough beatdown in The Dark Knight Returns, thanks to his years of planning and vast scientific knowledge and financial resources. So, it's possible that Captain America would outwit Captain Marvel. All things being equal, though, Marvel could just call down Zeus's magic lightning bolt on his opponent, like an airstrike from Mount Olympus.
Speaking of lightning, my sleeper pick would actually be the Flash, a guy capable of outrunning (and becoming!) lightning. He could gently lob a pebble at you, and it would rip through you like a railgun.

Let's see.
Buffy wasn't a closeted superhero with an alter-ego...though the themes of the show never drove that point, it is obvious that Sunnydale High has a rough idea of who she was as the show progressed (the sparkly umbrella at the Prom!) - plus, no other superheroes have donned Yummy Sushi pajamas.
The choice is clear. Buffy is better.

Lets see. Batman has beaten almost every member of the justice league at one point. He's taken Superman apart in DKR and in an alternate universe (Armegeddon 2000) he killed him. He wears body armour and has a whole host of weaponry.
Buffy would die pretty damn fast. Also, depending on who writes him, there's a chance he has a gun.
