What would you say if I told you that there were going to be 33 new reality shows debuting this year? Would you say that was too much? I certainly would. But it's not true anyway. There aren't 33 new reality shows that are going to launch this year.
There are 172.
That's right, according to the people over at the FOX Reality Channel (oh, there's a network that's not on my favorites lineup) there will be 172 new reality shows launched this year: 32 on the broadcast networks and 140 on cable.
That's the sickest, saddest statistic I've heard in quite some time. I would love to think that this is the beginning of the end for reality shows, that there is such a glut that viewers will get sick of them, but that hasn't been the case. As long as people watch them and they get good ratings (and they're cheaper to produce and not as risky), we're going to keep seeing them.
Oh, and Comcast? I'll gladly give up my FOX Reality Channel and about 25 others channels I don't need if you just give me The Tennis Channel. Thank you.

I have to agree - this is the sickest saddest statistic I've seen recently. This news just deflated me. Not that I was having a good day to begin with, but this is just completely awful. I don't even know what to say.
