Yes, this is yet another post about behind-the-scenes drama on the Grey's Anatomy set. We have written so many posts on Isaiah Washington, T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl here at TV Squad that I'm starting to believe there is a clause in the actors' contracts stating that they must make the headlines one way or another every month! This month's Grey's Anatomy drama is once again sponsored by actress Katherine Heigl. In June, Heigl bowed out of the Emmy race because she was not happy with the storylines given to her character last season. Fans and the press speculated that this also meant she wanted out of the ABC show. However, the actress confirmed she wanted to stay on the show. But what if the producers want her out? According to the latest rumor, that's exactly what they want.
Even if Heigl's character Izzie Stevens is an important part of the show and liked by many fans, Marc Malkin from E! Online reports that the character may be dead to the producers. According to Malkin's sources, Grey's Anatomy's creator Shonda Rhimes is toying with the idea of killing Izzie Stevens this upcoming season because of Katherine Heigl's comments when she took her name out for Emmys consideration. Those of you who want Izzie dead, don't rejoice too quickly because a representative for Shonda Rhimes said "I haven't heard anything about that." Malkin tried to get Heigl's and ABC's sides of the story but both declined to comment.
Personally, I wouldn't mind Izzie gone from the show. I have to side with Heigl on the fact that she didn't get great storylines this season. Actually, seeing her and George on screen made me cringe and Izzie was rather boring this season. If the writers have the same type of storylines in store for her next season, maybe it's time for them to get rid of the character. However, the Alex/Izzie kiss in the season finale was oh so right and I would like to see Izzie and Alex finally become a real couple and try to make it work.
What's your take on this? Should Shonda Rhimes get rid of Izzie Stevens because of how Katherine Heigl acts off the set? Should they keep her on the show and give the actress what she demands: better storylines? Let your voice be heard in comments.

I think is a huge publicity stunt. I can't tell you how many Google Alerts I have received about Heigl/Izzie being killed off the show. If not for her Emmy comments, would anyone even be talking about Grey's this summer....NO.
As far as Izzie & Alex, they have tons more chemistry than the awful plot of George & Izzie. Thank GAWD that nightmare has been ended.

Izzie has been dead to me since she killed Denny. Honestly, I was never that crazy about the whole love story. It happened waaaaay too fast and what she did was beyond the pale. I'm an RN and I understand that sometimes you have to "let the art flow," but after killing Denny, she would have been out on her ear AND prosecuted for murder. All her pals who helped would have at least been suspended, their futures on the line.

If they give that ungreatful actress "better" sotrylines it will show that her temper tantrum worked.
I loved the end of the season kiss.... but give me a break.
Because you know her movie career is so great! Let her do Bride of Chucky 2 or Under Seige 3.
Prima Donna....
I like GA, but man... all this stuff is really leaving a bad taste in my mouth about the show. Hasn't her "people" told her to shut her trap yet?

Come on... *Something* always happens with this show to get people talking in the off season or when they're not getting other press because of an outrageous cliffhanger storyline (which they didn't have with the Mer-Der wrapup at the end of this season).
They're a great marketing machine over there at ABC getting press on this show, and I think this whole "killing Izzie off" thing is just more of that. They're not going to kill Izzie off. They're not going to break Mer-Der up. They'll find something else outrageous to do that will keep people talking next season too...

If she goes - I go - she is the reason I watch the show - the other actors and story lines are OK but she makes the show!

if it hasn't "Jumped the Shark" already, killing her of will certainly bring about that milestone.

They shouldn't kill her off. If they want to punish her the writers should give her a crappy storyline on purpose.

I really like Katherine Heigl. She's right - she had awful stories this season. They're starting to make the characters into parodies of themselves; its embarrassing.
That she is strong enough to admit she didn't believe she should be nominated based and the she is unafraid to speak out impresses me.
Shonda isn't the show, the characters she writes are given life by the performers. It would do them all well to remember that and work together. If the seasons continue as last, it won't be around much longer.

Heigl didn't get good stories last season because the writers were busy writing around her movie production schedule. It's the height of hypocrisy for her to beg them to work with her, then complain that they did exactly what she asked for! Get rid of her - the sooner the better!

You know, if I had heard this rumor last year, or the year before, I would've leapt for joy. Out of all the characters on GA, Izzie and Heigl's portrayal of her seemed the least developed. Plus, I always wished the character's personality/sense of humor resembled that of the other females (bailey, meredith, christina, addison, callie). However, I've come to respect Heigl outside of the show. Plus, while her character didn't receive the best of storylines this year (what with new characters and old plots wrapping up), neither did George or Christina. Also, she seems more in synch with the character and the lines Izzie speaks now seems funnier - I wish the media weren't so down on females who speak their minds, as opposed to males who do the same thing -

If they kill her off, they are just justifying her comments rather than--I don't know--working hard to write well and prove her wrong?

I really like Katharine Heigl and her honesty. I think she is so right in that they gave her horrible storylines this season on Grey's Anatomy. Izzie used to be one of my favorite characters but every episode they made her to one crazy thing after the next...first she wanted to be with George..then she didn't...then she saved a deer...then she compeated with Cristina for cardio her new dream...then she didn't want that anymore...Shonda Rhimes should listen to her actors about what they are saying about their characters instead of going for 'shock' value. If they killed off Izzie I would stop watching the show, then maybe her and Denny could have a television series together, Touched by an Angel?

What is so special about this show? It used to have substance and ABC pushed Shonda Rhimes and her down our throats. She caved when they fired I.Washington. What he said was disgusting, but I miss him and his arrogance. He was a good actor in a show of "so so" actors. The storyline pf Izzie and George was a laugh. They've made George a wuss and if he doesn't stop stuttering and dumb-ass behavior soon, the show will be more laughable than it is right now. It's lost its way and "NO" they shouldn't fire Katherine Heig, just write better episodes for EVERYONE!!!!! Oh, and get rid of Shonda's other show "Private Practice".
