With the WGA Strike as ancient history, the guild is now pushing to have reality shows join its organization. In an effort to do this, the WGA is specifically targeting the show American Idol. They're calling it the Truth Tour and it begins with a Wednesday morning press conference in front of WGA headquarters following by a set of fake auditions at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, where auditions are held for the actual American Idol. They call it "the version they don't want you to see".
It looks like despite their ratification of a new contract the guild is not going gently unto that good night regarding this issue. I say: good for them. Most "reality" shows are anything but and involve some degree of writing (even if it's given another name by the producers).
The WGA have also proven themselves to be master satirists (they are writers, y'know), so I'm sure their version of the "auditions" will be quite clever. I'm looking forward to seeing it eventually, probably on YouTube.

The writers need to shut the fuck up.
Honestly I was for them before they cave in to the studios, if they stood their ground I would be backing them, but never again. I hope the studios continue to screw them in the future.
And if this story gets any buzz, which it won't, all it will do is help American Idol.

With the amount of scripted reality shows now (The Two Coreys, The Hills, etc.), it's about time that the creative people on the shows get on board with the WGA.

The writers should take their $3008 worth of coupons and bubblegum and be happy to still have jobs here. Not to be all anti-outsourcing but I'm sure there are writers in other countries who could write better scripts for some of these shows. And based on some of the crap thats' written well that wouldn't be too hard.
