Burn Notice season two -- An early look

Burn NoticeAs I started watching the premiere episode of this season of Burn Notice, I was reminded of one of the things I really love about the show...the scenery. Unlike CSI:Miami, BN is actually shot in Miami and while it's hard to put your finger on why it makes a difference, it's undeniable that a difference is made. It's the same difference you see when you watch Law & Order and CSI: New York back to back.

At the end of last season it seemed like Michael was on the verge of finding out who burned him and why. Now, most of the time that would mean that the series is one step closer to coming to an end, but fans of the show know better.

If you've read anything about the show you know that Tricia Helfer appears in the first episode and without giving too much away, it's nice to see her added to the cast. I hope she stays with the show for the whole season because the presence of her character adds a new level to the show and to Donovan's character.

All the other characters are back as well. Fiona, Sam and Michael's mom are all in the premiere and are just as great as ever. One thing that always bugs me about TV dramas is how they always have these dramatic season finales and then when the show returns everybody is back to their normal lives. The first episode of this season not only addresses everything that happened in last season's finale but they make sure to pay attention to the residual effects of Sam's beating, Madeline's run in with gun-toting spies and Fiona is still eager to talk to Michael about heir "relationship."

I've always been a fan of the anti-hero and not only is Michael the perfect example, he surrounds himself with other anti-heroes. Sam is pretty lazy. Fi is extremely self-centered as well as prone to violence and his Mom has a host of problems and yet they always work together to do the right thing. More importantly, if it weren't for the fact that their enemies were so completely evil, it might be hard to tell the good guys from the bad.

Judging by the premiere episode (which airs tomorrow at 10 PM ET), this season seems to have the perfect mix of everything that made season one so great and a few new twists thrown in for spice.
