It's coming. The return of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. With the season three DVD set to be released on September 9th, FX has lined up season four to premiere on Thursday, September 18th. I've gotta say - between this, The Shield, and Sons of Anarchy, FX has one helluva fall schedule. No word on whether or not the first few weeks will be double episodes as they did the past few seasons, but I would imagine they will be.
To prep for the season, FX has been airing promos like crazy (I embedded a great one featuring "Day Man" at the end of this post), but if you haven't been poking around the It's Always Sunny... website, you probably missed this: they made a music video.
Performed by Jeru the Damaja and directed by Fred Savage (he helmed a handful of episodes last season), the video is all about - you guessed it - going back to Philly. I wish I could have embedded that one too, but there's no code. You'll have to go to the site to watch it.
Be prepared to laugh.
The video features lots of great stuff from seasons past. Charlie's nasty mom, Charlie's "greenman" suit, the McPoyle's disgusting sister Margaret, flaming bags of poo, Mac's transvestite obsession, and Charlie's illiteracy ("Filly"). It's a really solid tribute to the show and all the great gags and jokes that have been so memorable.
Despite the fact that there are so many other outstanding sitcoms on TV right now (The Office, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, Weeds, Entourage, and Californication come to mind), It's Always Sunny... is the only one that's consistently great every week. Each episode is outlandishly inappropriate and they're all instant classics with endless replay value. As good as those other shows are, you just can't say the same thing about them. They've all got a handful of stinkers and that just isn't the case with this show. Name a bad episode - I dare you.

Any word on how many eps there will be this season? I'm hoping it's closer to 20 than to 10. It always seems like the season is over right after it starts. I can't wait to see what kind of shit they get themselves into this season.

Only thirteen episodes this season, I'm afraid. We should just be thankful FX renewed it at all. It's absolutely the funniest show on TV right now!

According to Wikipedia (I know, I know...), it's 13 eps this season. Down 2 from last season :(
But they have another show they're making a pilot for this fall called Boldly Going Nowhere. Should be interesting, since it's a different direction for them. Sci-fi comedy.

Best on-air comedy (along with Flight of the Conchords and a little Australian comedy called Summer Heights High which I REALLY recommend. (UK people, it's on BBC3 and iPlayer). Only topped by Arrested Development in my book.
Can't wait for new eps!

DeVito dressed as LL was worth watching the video again.

Quick note: It's Mac's Mom in the video, not Charlie's Mom.

I agree with all the outstanding sitcoms except how I met your mother and fx has a better fall season than most of the national networks.
