TLC has a new docu-series (that's a fancy name for "reality show") called Must Love Kids. On this show, TLC will follow three moms as they enter the daunting world of dating as a single mother. The three mothers who currently balance their careers and raising their children will step out of their comfort zones to date and maybe even find a lifelong partner. Not so sure about this show. According to the press release, "With an estimated 10.4 million single mothers in the U.S., these three single moms will undoubtedly inspire others to take the initiative and focus on their own happiness." I don't like the assumption here. All single moms are miserable and don't focus on their own happiness? Therefore, all single moms need to learn to be happy so they can secure another mate? Maybe I'm being too harsh though. I generally like TLC's programming. (I changed dinner reservations once while vacationing in Hawaii with my husband because American Choppers wasn't over yet.)
What do you think? Would you watch this show?
Must Love Kids premieres July 15th at 9:00 p.m. ET / PT on TLC.

...maybe a little harsh? I think blurbs & snippets lend themselves to generalizations which are more black & white than any reality, real or televised, & personally I doubt TLC is working off the presumption that single mothers as a rule don't focus on their own happiness - but maybe that it can sometimes take a back seat to more important things, like raising happy, healthy kids. That's what I'd gotten from it - which makes it seem possibly interesting to me - looking into the balance one needs to strike as a single parent when, romantically speaking, you're not just working to rekindle romance with your partner, but you're also looking to find that life partner.

I'm a single parent who chose not to look for another mate. I realize that some people think you must be married, but I decided that wasn't important. I didn't even date until my kids were grown. I'm still not looking for a mate. I like my life the way it is, and yes, I'm happy.

I love the concept of this show. Im a young single mom and I would jump at an opportunity like this. It is hard enough dating and being a mom makes it even tougher. I can't wait to watch, hopefully I will learn something.

I absolutely hate this program. I myself as a young child was put through a variety of relationships that were hard enough to deal with, let alone cope with now that I am an adult. It makes me sick that these women chose to have their potential suitors meet their kids ON THE FIRST DATE. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Not only could their kids care less, the neverending revolving door of men coming through only makes the kids confused, and as they get older they look back and realize how dumb mommy was. It is incredibly selfish to have these men met your kids without any consideration of the affect it has on your seemingly oblivious children. I suggest a follow up show ten years down the road entitled... Must Love Kids: The Aftermath... which could detail the horrible relationships and effects on these young kids. Thanks TLC for a show that parallels EVERY KIDS LIFE THAT HAS GONE THROUGH A DIVORCE in a way that makes this behaviour acceptable. I hope all these women realize this as these stupid dates fizzle out because they are more than fake and ridiculously flakey.

I love this show!!! I as a single mom realize the battles that take place with juggling kids, career, and everything in between. I have taken time off from dating, to do some soul searching of my own, so I vicariously live my dating life through watching these women and the tough choices to be made!!! If anything you helped one dateless woman make it through a season!!!
