From 1986 through 2004, there was a popular English game show called Catch Phrase (we had a version in America, but like tea drinking and civility, we ditched it after only a very brief run). Here's how the bonus game on the show worked: nine blocks covered up a short video snippet. The blocks were removed randomly and the first contestant to correctly guess what phrase was being represented by the video won some British prize (like a top hat or a subcontinent or something). In the following video, the randomized blocks' perfect placement over the animation combines with the dirty-minded twelve-year-old that lives inside all of us to hilarious effect. Every time a block is removed, the animation just looks more and more filthy. Even better is the reaction of the contestants and the host, who, about ten seconds in, decide to abandon any hope of getting through the animation without losing their minds with laughter. The video after the jump.

Have I mentioned how much I love the internet? Imagine living in a world where something like this remains buried on some decomposing VHS tape. A chilling, chilling thought.
(By the way, it was brought to my attention by eagle-eyed editor Joel Keller that this video has apparently been making the rounds for quite some time. Like Homer Simpson discovering the internet -- they have the internet on computers now!? - I seem to be a little behind the curve. Taking a page out of NBC's publicity department, we decided to post it anyway. Because, after all, if you haven't seen it ... it's new to you.)

It was featured at the top spot of one of those "funniest moment" filler programs a few years ago. NBC, maybe?

Yeah it's years old but still so much fun so take it from the guy who always bitches about everything that posting this with so much text around it made it a good post :-)
What made this show so great is the host, the guy is really friendly and funny and no matter how moronic the guesses from the contestants were he never reacted in an unfriendly way. He's the sort of person you want to be your father-in-law. Maybe it's just on air but I doubt it. I grew up with this show which was broadcast in my part of germany where the british troops were stationed. They got it via their programme. We also did get Knight Rider and Star Trek: The Next Generation years before they were broadcast on our regular, german TV stations (and even before there were any privately owned TV stations at all - imagine that, up until 1988 all we had was THREE TV stations with program from 2pm to 0:30am).
Try to get that into the mind of a teenager today. No TV at night. Unimaginable.

Yeah, funny you mention NBC because that's where it's been seen many times on the various incarnations of the "Most Outrageous Moments" show! I think ABC also had an "Outrageous Game Show Moments" series that was re-run on GSN a few years ago, that also included this clip. My question is were all the puzzles this "outrageous" and if so where are those videos?!
