The title says it all. According to the blog of The Office co-creator Ricky Gervais, Steve Carell has signed on to play Michael Scott for three more seasons.Gervais follows up the announcement by saying "He is the hardest working man in Hollywood and the harder he works the better it is for me. I mean... well done Steve you are wonderful."
Gervais also mentions "We are also working on a spinoff series of The American Office but I can't tell you anything about that yet."
Mr. Carell victoriously performed the herculean task of taking someone else's role and making it his own (well, the original character was named David Brent, but you know what I mean). Given the success of his movie efforts, he could easily ditch his television show and go full-time into film roles. Bravo to him for remembering where he came from and not taking Michael Scott away from his adoring fans.

I think he is smart enough to realize that three years isn't that long and he still can do movies. Plus in three years the show should end, it will be the 7-8th season anyways.

I want next season to be it. They could wrap up all the storylines in 22 episodes, and I'd be happy. No one wants another Scrubs or Simpsons.

Honestly I would love if the current season would've been it.
They are going to break up Pam and Jim this fall because of this now confirmed three season run. And I effing hate that. I already expected it when they showed Pam getting allowed into that art class and thought maybe they will just brake them up for a short period of time - but now I can see two years of pining "Friends"-Style - which was ok BTW if there wouldn't have been that dreadful 10th season.
