"White Stuff on Mars": New discoveries on Mars make room for coke jokes and groantastic puns. There Will Be Flood"/"Wet Hot American Bummer" (HA!): Much of the Midwest is currently underwater, due to storms, failing levies and acts of not-God. Reporters are already looking for the most dramatic ways to demonstrate the severity of the situation, and President Bush is obviously dreading a visit to the disaster area. Correspondents Jason Jones and Wyatt Cenac reported from a flooded scene, just to dig up some of that dated "George Bush doesn't care about black people" stuff. I guess they had to do it now, as mentioning it in the next night's episode may have been a little weird, what with Mike Meyers being the guest and all. I'm waiting for Wyatt to do his own correspondent field report before I decide how I feel about him. I'm kind of liking his perpetual angry-face, though. And did the audience know for what they were applauding? It sounded like more blind, trained seal clapping.
"Indecision 2008": Recently, Al Gore endorsed Barack Obama. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought it was a bit weak that he didn't make this announcement until Hillary Clinton had dropped out. His endorsement would have meant so much more before her secession, even though it probably would have been a really sick burn against her. In the future, I hope The Daily Show finds more future excuses to air Plan 9 From Outer Space clips in the future. I also believe this is the first time I've ever laughed at Jeff Foxworthy. I'm not proud of it.
The night's guest was Steve Carell, promoting Get Smart. This guy is so amazing, I hope the entire audience gave him a standing ovation. The interview had nothing to do with anything and mainly consisted of the two guys joking back and forth. It got a little slow at a few points and I didn't know how long Mr. Carell would keep up his big Hollywood act, but it didn't bother me too much, just because I was feeling nostalgic. I think it's fantastic how he always makes a point to thank Jon and the show for kicking off his career. Their chemistry is undeniable, and that final moment where Steve almost spit all over the desk was too great. "Take Steve Carell's advice. Pull down those pants." And whoa, there! Was that a double fist pound at the end? A double terrorist fist jab?
His last interview was exactly one year ago, to the day, and it's worth a revisit if you're looking for a bit more substance.
Jon/Stephen: Stephen Colbert's "truthiness" has made it to the New York Times crossword puzzle, but... no Carell teasing, unfortunately. I miss the days of "Even Stephven" so terribly, and I long for the day they have a reunion on the big or small screen. I'm still holding out hope that Stephen Colbert will guest star on The Office as Jan Levinson-Gould's Gould. Hey, it's been rumored, so at least I'm not just blindly fantasizing about it. Apparently, Steve and Stephen met up that night anyway to do a Get Smart interview at the Soho Apple Store. Here's one clip, via No Fact Zone:
Moment of Zen: Melon jokes, CNN? Come on. Leave that to the Comedy Central boys.

Do you think Jon chose the zombie image because of the previous joke about Plan 9 from Outer Space?
A real spit-take! That was great. Offering to buy the show was funny but not as good as his last appearance when he signed a copy of America (The Book) for Jon and misspelled his name.

"It sounded like more blind, trained seal clapping." Just like the Colbert audience the day before. They both had really annoying audiences this week laughing like a laugh-track. It really starts to annoy me.
They should have some test at the door. Point out on a globe where Israel is. Pick up globe from table over there with round object and book-like object.
I would love to see how many audience-wannabes would pick up the atlas.
