In early May, we told you that Smallville was looking at adding two new characters to fill in the void left my some major departures (read here Lex, less Lana, and no more Lionel, since the character got killed). The two characters were that of Doomsday, the only DC Comics character to have killed Superman, and Tess, a female villain set to take care of Lex's estate. Gossip columnist Michael Ausiello reports on his website that the show finally cast both roles. Battlestar Galactica's Sam Witwer was cast as a reviewed/revamped version of Doomsday while newcomer Cassidy Freeman will play Tess.
Slight spoilers about both roles coming up!
Here is what we know about both characters:
Doomsday: Since this is Smallville, don't expect the character to be exactly like he is in the DC Comics. Doomsday is one of the hot bartenders at Ace of Clubs. He is known as Davis Bloome, a man in his 20s. According to the spoilers we've received so far, it's unclear if Davis knows he is Doomsday. However, the man does know something is wrong with him. He even tells Lois, who is now a regular at Ace of Clubs, that there is something inside of him that he can't control. According to some casting notice, Davis will be introduced in a scene with Lois.
Tess: This woman in her 20s will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could. She is now in control of Lex's estate while he is missing. According to earlier reports from Ausiello, Lex saved Tess' life years ago and, since then, she's been devoting her life to him. According to casting notices, Tess will be introduced in a scene with Clark at the Kent Farm.
Supposedly, Doomsday would be a regular character while Tess will be at least recurring. Witwer seems a nice choice to play Davis Bloome. However, I'm not too sure about Cassidy Freeman, especially since the new producers told in a press release that Tess would "be familiar to many fans." Since the actress is unknown to fans right now, it will be difficult to make the character "familiar" to them.

Several months ago I made a joke about how ridiculous it was for Clark to be meeting the entire freakin' DC universe before hes even Superman. One of my "crazy" examples was Doomsday.

It looks like it at first glance. However, it's possible that it's just his story to Lois and that he fully knows that he is a killer at night and handsome bartender by day.

Great minds do not always think alike as shown over the past seven years of Smallville. If they had Clark would have learned to fly by now thanks to Johnathan who taught him. But for some unknown reason they made a deal with someone to take away one of Clark's greatest abilities.
But all of that behind us these great minds keep bringing us those villians and heroes that he is not suppose to meet until later in his life. Now I suppose that the way television and the lives of the viewers, including my own, are leaning more and more toward sci-fi and fantasy that those great minds at the great CW11 should ponder this.
If they are going to keep giving us something new then why not try to bring a new setting where Superboy can hone all of his abilities, including flying, without any fear for his alter ego. And at the same time introducing us to a brave new world from where a spinoff could be made into a series for us hard sci-fi fantasy viewers. If by now they have not seen that I am talking about the Legion of Super Heroes, then my first assumption has been proven correct again. Great minds do not always think alike.

Please tell me this is a joke. Not unlike the last several seasons of Smallville being a complete joke. If the majority of your main cast leaves the show. (And not just because of contractual obligations.) Then pull up the stakes because this caravan is leaving for good. I used to look forward to watching the next episode and the next season compiling as many spoilers as I can to speculate what is going to happen next. But the last several seasons characters have been acting, well, out-of-character and the plots seemed to be forced and contrived. I haven't seen anything to further the legend or mythos of Superman himself and the fact that the show is losing more and more interest can't come as a suprise to the writers. Adding in fellow superheroes and cousin Kara (being cute is the only thing she has going for her. I mean are people getting sick enough of Clarks character that they have to produce a female version of him just to keep interest?) are just band-aids on the bleeding corpse that is Smallville. The worst part and I do mean the absolute worst part is that come fall season I'll probably watch every new episode not on the hopes of hating each and everyone, but in the small gimmer of hope-beyond-hope that they'll somehow regain some spark that drew me to the series in the first place and kept me here through several seasons. Please WB don't let my hopes be mislaid.

way to do your research.. if you knew the comics you'd know that everyone thought Superman died during the fight.. if you read the reign of Superman and when Superman actually returns.. you'd realize his body shut down to heal itself. so thus Superman did not die.
plus if you researched who has killed Superman you'd realize that gog killed him in the series "The Kingdom" and in fact he went backwards in time killing superman each day killin him several times (but this i suppose could be conidered elseworlds i suppose). Luther Killed him in a few elseworlds tales, and during the second gog's introduction into the comics he dies from susteined injuries from gog torturing him for several hundred years.
but no Doomsday did not kill Superman... >.> least get your facts straight before you publish.
