Oh, if only the "reality-free" tag above meant something else when it comes to this.
Just when you thought you could sit back in your comfy chair and watch TV this fall, comes news that possible Screen Actor's Guild strike that has been talked about for weeks is very close to actually happening. The deadline is June 30, and while a lot of people in the industry thought that the contracts signed at the end of the writer's strike earlier this year (ah, remember those days?) could serve as a blueprint, that might not be the case.
The studios aren't happy that SAG has said that a deal probably wouldn't be reached by the deadline, and SAG is unhappy because they feel the studios are being unreasonable and won't come to an agreement over DVDs and new media. If there's one piece of good news in this is that a lot of shows are currently filming, so shows like CSI, Heroes, House, and ER will have a couple of episodes ready. Fans of Grey's Anatomy and The Office (among other shows) won't be happy though.
The writer's strike cost Los Angeles around $3 billion. Hopefully one side (or both) will realize that the industry can't take another strike so soon.

Do you realize what strikes like this do to the Below-the-Line workers?
I.A.T.S.E. and its respective locals have over 50,000 members. During the writer's strike they were all put out of work. When SAG strikes, 85% of them will be put out of work again.
Let me ask you this. If you had a mortgage to pay, would you be able to make 12 months of payments of you only worked 3 of those months?

As far as the strike, I really hope the actors come to some sort of agreement, even if it just protects the next season and the parties have to go back into mediation in 2009. I think that the goodwill and support that the writers got won't happen the second time around if another strike happens so soon.

If their is a strike I will be so pissed at both sides. They know how much it cost and the damage done after the writers strike. The public will be very upset. But the studio heads and producers and SAG both have giant egos and want to say they won, so I would not be surprised if there is a strike. But it's going to really hurt the industry.

The actors were out of work for a long time last year due to the writer's strike. Seems another strike could really hurt the wallets of the supporting players.
What kind of an agreement should be made over DVDs and new media? I'm not sure how it works with actors and reruns, etc., other than those that make a deal get money. It's not the norm, is it?

Dear Scott,
Find out who's is working first before you talk about how somebody gets paid. Most actors are not working.
As far as getting paid... it's scale that varies and most are not A-listers so learn some info on about the percentage who is out of work and who is working cause it doesn't balance out evenly.
I hope the strike doesn't happen. I would like to work soon. Plus, it will only delay any productions and I'm trying to get a pilot produced and picked up.
