The fourth season of Weeds began on Monday night, and the comedy's season premiere earned Showtime record ratings. With 1.3 million viewers, "Mother Thinks the Birds are After Her" is officially the most-watched season premiere of any Showtime series to date. Weeds broke the record formerly held by the season two premiere of Dexter, which had one million viewers. Showtime's Secret Diary of a Call Girl also brought in a significant audience. The drama earned 949,000 viewers, setting a record for the highest-rated series premiere on the cable network. The L Word's series premiere was the previous record-holder.
Weeds' audience has grown considerably with each season. 488,000 people watched the season one premiere, and season two's premiere had 578,000 viewers. The biggest ratings jump was between the third and current seasons; Monday's season premiere had 64% more viewers than last season's. It was a smart move to leave the show's suburban location and make a few cast changes. Like a lot of fans, I was curious to see if the new, transformed Weeds would work. If viewers stick around for the rest of the show's next chapter, Weeds should have a bright future at Showtime.

Convenient that Weeds was the ONLY thing to watch that night. It was great, though.

There are 200 channels, I'm sure it wasn't the only thing to watch.
Weeds is awesome, sure it gets more crazy every year, but still a wonderful show. I hope they end it with everyone going to jail, that would be perfect.

I love Weeds. I wish Conrad and Heylia were still regular characters, but still, Albert Brooks as Cranky Grandpa is a rather satisfying replacement (along with the apparent promotion of Guillermo to a more recurring character).

There was talk about a spinoff with them, I think he was joking around but ratings like this they really should make the Conrad and Heylia spinoff.
