File this one under "non-story of the day." TV Guide is reporting exclusively that yes - wait for it - Tatum O'Neal is still part of FX's acclaimed drama Rescue Me.
Was there ever any doubt that she wouldn't be?
Sure, her recent drug bust was a major headline a few weeks ago, but there was never a moment when I thought, "Man... I guess she won't be on Rescue Me anymore." Last I heard, her charge was only a misdemeanor. According to TVG, she's already filmed 2 episodes for the drama's fifth season, which doesn't return until 2009.
Personally, to me, she seems like the type of person who can laugh at her own follies. With her character Maggie and her brother Tommy (Denis Leary) dealing with the death of their father from the season four finale, I think they'd be crazy to not turn O'Neal's drug issues into a storyline. It'd fit Maggie's character perfectly.
In the meantime, FX has ten Rescue Me minisodes slated to air this summer in lieu of a full season. They premiere on Tuesday, June 24th at 10:00PM ET.

So the Minisodes have already been filmed and they are now filming the 'full' season episodes?

I decided last year that the season ending scenes at the ballpark would serve as a nice series finale for me as well. Beginning with the death of Jerry, there were just too many things about the show that had gone south for me. I'm tired of how they keep killing off his family members, and I find it too unbelievable how so many women are throwing themselves at Tommy Gavin.
If he was the one doing all the chasing, fine. That's almost expected. But Tommy has been set up as some kind of love magnet and I just can't see it.
I think the show is just treading water when it comes to plots now, and should have known when to make its exit.
But that's just me....

Rescue Me may be waning, but it has far more creative drive left than the poor shadow of a show that is Nip/Tuck. It really is sad, as the show used to be spectacular (if you go back and watch the series premiere, I think it was one of the finest hours of television I have ever witnessed, and the rest of that season, and most of the next, didn't disappoint), but lately, it just is one sad, pathetic plot twist after another.
