Television icon Mary Tyler Moore guest star on NBC's Lipstick Jungle. She will play Wendy Healy's (Brooke Shields) mother Joyce, a retired high-powered executive. Joyce will force Wendy to question whether or not she can have it all: the successful career and the happy family. A trailblazer for working women back int he 1970s, Joyce's concerns for Wendy leave her overachieving daughter in a tailspin.Of the guest starring role, Moore has commented, "I'm fortunate to have had a front row seat to the evolution of working women on television. It's been great fun to watch the strong female characters of Lipstick Jungle go at it week after week. I absolutely adore Brooke and I'm delighted to be a part of a show which is so well written."
Brooke Shields feels lucky to have Moore on her show, which goes into its second season this fall: "I am excited and extremely honored to have an actress of Mary Tyler Moore's stature and talent join our show." Lipstick Jungle premieres Wednesday September 24th at 10-11 p.m. ET.

Kim Raver and Brooke Shields act their butts off for what little they can do with their characters on LIPSTICK JUNGLE. But even they cannot overcome some truly bad writing on that show. (I've seen every episode.) Kim Raver's husband, Charles, supposedly never spent any time with her. But the show never spent any time with him, until we were supposed to think that he was cheating. So we had no reason to be upset that he was cheating. And then we're supposed to be sympathetic with Nico as she wrestles with her marriage and her BoyToy.
If the show got better, stronger writers, it could actually be really, really good. But it needs to set up characters better, and show us these women actually doing their JOB. Not hanging around Central Park, shopping on Fifth Avenue, but actually WORKING. They are working women, right? Nico spent the most time at work when she was being sued, Wendy's work isn't taken seriously and is used for humorous B-plots, and Victory... well, is Victory. She can work or not work, and she'll still mope. *sigh*
Here's hoping for some better writers for season two.
And I wasn't planning on watching again, but, I might tune in to see MTM. She is AMAZING.

I've really enjoyed the show and look forward to the next season. The problem with showing people working is that most jobs, other than medicine and law (and people in the performing arts) (and secret agents), don't have much that plays to a camera. It's difficult to show people thinking, except in short bursts, and most meetings are really deadly dull. Since the show is primarily about the main characters' interaction, presumably it is reasonable to expect it to focus on that and merely imply that they also are engaged in their careers. To each their own.
