(S04E12) "If it was men I could have worked that to my advantage, but it was bitchy, pregnant women." - Corey
Tonight I came up with a million dollar idea for a new reality show. It's a combination of Hell's Kitchen and The Mole. Maybe Hell's Mole. Or Mole in the Kitchen. You have 12 contestants trying to get the gig as Gordon Ramsay's new chef at one of his restaurants, but one of them has been paid by FOX/Ramsay to actually screw up the service. Burn the food, put some hot sauce in something that another player is cooking when they're not looking, blow a challenge on purpose. It could be exciting, though Mole would probably have to be change to Mole'.
I thought of this tonight after the sneaky thing that Jen did in the elimination voting...
We're down to four players: Jen, Corey, Petrozza, and Christina. The opening of HK shows the players that have been eliminated, and to tell you the truth it's hard to even remember some of them. Sharon? Vanessa? Shayna? They're a blur, and the only reason Dominic stands out is because he really didn't fit in and was voted off first.
The challenge this week is to make lunch service for 80 mysterious guests. Jen makes grouper (not sure I would go that route when you have no idea who the guests are), Christina makes a chicken dish, Petrozza makes Monte Cristos, and Corey makes salmon BLTs. Or I should say she tries to make them. Even though she has an hour, she only gets a handful of sandwiches done, which irritates Ramsay.
The 80 guests? Pregnant women! And they're probably going to be really hungry. They seem to like all the dishes, though Corey makes several of them wait while she makes more sandwiches (never leave a pregnant woman waiting for food). After all is said and done, the women vote for the best and it's really close. Two votes separate Christina and Petrozza, and Christina wins. She gets to go to Beverly Hills and shop for clothes while the rest have to clean the dining room (and whine and moan - Jen and Corey both say that Christina has no fashion sense and it should be them who go shopping, which strikes me as really catty and dumb - Petrozza pretty much stays out of it). Christina shows her clothing to the others. Why anyone would show $1000 worth of clothing to people who are jealous escapes me.
I'd also like to mention that for the second time, Jen eats food off of the plates. Really bizarre.
The dinner service goes incredibly well. Sure, there are some hiccups: Jen doesn't move as fast as Ramsay wants, Christina's hot pan burns Ramsay*, and Petrozza's station is a mess (as usual), but Ramsay says it's the best service yet. But they still have to vote someone else.
That's where Jen's treachery comes in. The group isn't sure who to vote for, so they decide to secretly vote for someone on pieces of paper. That's when we find out that three people voted for Christina, which is impossible since Corey didn't vote for her. So that means that Jen voted for Christina twice! (There's an outside chance that maybe Corey lied about who she voted for, but it doesn't seem that way.) The two people put up for elimination are Jen and Corey.
While most of America prays that Jen is the one going home, Ramsay says "Corey...say goodbye to Jen." Ah, the old fakeout. Thankfully Jen is now gone, free to go someplace else and out-cook everyone and be a "fashionista."
Ramsay has the three remaining players hug each other, saying "I know Petrozza's fat but he's not that ugly!"
* Did anyone notice that Ramsay burned his left hand but ran his right hand under the cold water? I had to rewind it to see if that's what happened and it is. He puts his left hand under at one point and then puts his right hand, and they showed this twice. What's that all about?

* What I don't get is that in all of the preceding shots of Ramsay grabbing pot handles at the pass, he used a towel. Yep,.. that's right, he consciously placed a towel on every pot handle, except for Christina's.
That was strange.

The kitchen for the show has mirrors everywhere - sometimes the footage you see is shot straight on through a one-way mirror, sometimes the best angle is reflected in a mirror on the other side of the room.
That might account for the left/right flip.

Also shots in shows are sometimes mirrored in post production for various reasons, although this may not have happened here.
I am very glad Jen is gone. She would always say something like "I don't understand why I lost that challenge, I put out a great dish." Never even considering that maybe her performance wasn't perfect.

so i guess i am the only one who thinks Corey secretly voted for Christina? she even said she would do anything to get Jen off the show. so, how convenient was it for her to suggest they do a secret ballot and how convenient of her to tally the votes at the end. how convenient that when she saw Christina's name that she automatically looked at Jen... she is even sneakier than Jen. i really dislike Corey and i wonder how she even managed to make it this far.

I saw that too and thought...uh nasty.....
Anyways, what is odd is Petrozza rarely "messes" up other than being messy. My vote (for the best of the worst) is Petrozza. I think he will go up against Christina.

Christina might also have voted for herself, to toss the blame onto Jen. Which would be pretty cool and sneaky.

Here is what i do not get. I worked in kitchen and have touched the hot pan before. One is it generally makes you wince. But never have i ran it under water unless it was a real bad burn. Certainly if the handle was steaming it would have been a bad burn. But yet we see Gorden clapping his hands very hard to encourage and support the chefs. IF YOU WERE BURNED SO BAD, HOW ARE YOU CLAPPING? More tv drama i guess.

The arrogant biatch is FINALLY eliminated. It was getting to the point where I just couldn't look or listen to her anymore.
She was the most annoying contestant I've seen, bar none.

Jen was so vicious when Christina showed what she bought at Lisa Kline! She kept saying she would do so much better than Christina. I wanted to yell "bitch, you wouldn't fit into anything but earrings at that store!". What a baby - nobody treated her that badly when she won challenges in the past.

thought about the possibility that Corey might have voted for Christina twice as well -- except when it was discovered, both she and Petroza said they didn't do it while Jen stayed silent. Granted, that could be due to the magic of scene editing, but it seems like Jen is a pretty vocal person and she would have loudly defended herself had she not done it.
It really was a slimey thing to do, especially after they all agreed NOT to double up on the names right at the start. Yes, it's a competition, and everyone's in it to win, but I think sometimes that the participants of these reality shows forget that they are on television. Their actions are watched by millions of viewers.
Judgemental viewers. People who are formulating opinions about the kind of individuals they really are.
Based on what I've seen of Corey and Jen, I would not go out of my way to be friends with them were I given the opportunity. Certainly if I had a resturaunt and either of them came in for a job, I'd remember just how they acted in the kitchen during the show and worry over how much of that was TV scene-editing magic -- and how much of it mirrored exactly who they are.

I missed the first part of the show and caught it from when the winner of the challenge was announced. I swear that when Jen was cleaning the plates she said "look at all this turkey left on these plates". According to the review, Christina's dish was chicken. Did I hear Jen wrong or is she just completely unaware of what the other contestants cooked?

I think that Ramsay's reaction to the "hot pot handles" was more of an exaggeration to bring home the point that she needs to be careful.
if he was really burned you can believe she would have "disappeared" during the next commercial break

See ya, Jen! What an annoying person. Bad attitude, totally lacking in self-reflection and to cap it off the snarfing of food off plates like an underfed urchin. She might have moved a tad faster if she wasn't pleasantly sated all the time.

I don't think Jen's personality (as edited by HK's producers) is any worse than either of the other women. She's just more vocal about what's going on in her head. Far more vocal. The remaining two are silently scheming and disliking each other, whereas Jen didn't put much effort into hiding her true self. I'll take Jen's attitude over Corey's false belief that she can use her 'sex appeal' to get what she wants from men. She might do better if the restaurant Ramsey is opening was a Hooters.
Christina should have been the one hitting the bricks last night. Unless he was just doing it to be dramatic, Ramsey got burned by her incompetence TWICE. There's no way that should have been outweighed by Jen's lack of speed, or her cocky personality. Ramsey cited Jen's inconsistency as the reason she got the boot, but aside from tonight's performance by Petrozza everyone on the show has been very inconsistent for every single service.
If Pertrozza doesn't win this competition, this is some bull.
