I mean seriously, what the frak? Why the frak do we have to wait until frakking 2009 for the final frakking season of Battlestar frakking Galactica. Those motherfrakking skinjobs, and I know they're Cylons or they wouldn't do this to us, really like to frakking torture us diehard frakking fans, don't they. Frakkers! Wow, that does make it incredibly frakking easy to drop frakking curse words all the frakking time without really frakking cussing. How frakking liberating is that! But back to business. Executive producer Ronald D. Moore spoke at a Wednesday night screening of this Friday's summer finale and broke the news that the remainder of this fourth and final season of BSG probably wouldn't air until early 2009. The show just doesn't want to have to face off against the new fall slates on the networks or football and baseball, which I guess I can understand. Why not wait until January so all you have to deal with is those crappy shows nobody watches like American Idol and 24? And nobody will be interested in the build-ups to the season finales of shows like Lost and Heroes. It's a frakking no-brainer!

This news is seriously like a year old. I knew going into the fourth season way before that it would be broken up.

is there a chance of waiting even longer if the SAG strike happens? I hope the episodes are already in the can.

It sucks, but there's nothing I can do about it. I WANT to see how it all ends. I will watch the episodes even if they decide to play one new episode every other month for the next two years.

Jake's right, we did know this going on .. but it's TVSquad.com so they're a tv news site and when Moore makes an "official" statement about it they have to publish it right?
Anyway this is good news for me because I'm trying to get some of my friends hooked on the show so I have about 6 months to get them caught up. Sweet.

BSG airs late on Friday nights so what new fall network shows would it really be in competition with?

A. Word from SciFi has not actually come down on this yet so this is not 100% official.
B. Moore did say "probably"
C. Episodes are all shot and in post production IIRC. SAG strike shouldn't effect this at all.
D. We have been speculating this for a long time (especially during the strike when it was first theorized by SciFi that they might do this) However, it has all been speculation (and still kind of is)
E. I don't see why ratings should matter. The show is not getting renewed. However it has more to do with SciFi wanting to have something to show in their early 2009 season.

They are still filming the finale episode, but that will wrap before the end of the month.

I'm surprised that TV Squad in this article mentions the Wednesday night screening, but that the screening itself didn't get its own article. The finale is killer, it beautiful on the big screen. Its was a blast. Tricia, Katee, and Mary (they should form a GRRL group) were all lovely and wonderful. Ron was great too. The Q and A was disappointing though, and there was no meet and greet. Which was lame. Yet the finale, awesome. From what I know lots of it has already been leaked online. But it won't be by me. No way. All I have to say is WTF?! (What the Frak?!)

I am hoping it will not be as predictable as the previews make it seem. I want some surprises!

I think this crazy scheduling has everything to do with the impending SAG strike, which the industry was preparing for even before the WGA walked out. They're preparing for the "worst case scenario", that is, a strike that will last into 2009, wiping out winter sweeps. I see the Sci-Fi Channel/NBC-Universal actually taking a gamble and halfway hoping the strike lasts that long, so the ratings for the final 10 episodes are higher due to no competiton.
Another reason may be, strike permitting, to give the BSG prequel Caprica a stronger launch. I'm not sure when Caprica is going to hit, but wouldn't it benefit the Sci-fi Channel more if they were able to start Caprica, in the spring of 2009, immediately after BSG ends it's run?

I agree with Akbar....especially about part E. The ratings should not matter since the show will not be returning. It must be that the advertisers (and sci-fi channel) want to have something good to prolong on their channel. Gotta make sure we don' t waste those commercials. Frak.

Out of curiosity, does anybody know about the UK? I knows like Stargate always returned before, or didn't have the breaks that these shows have during the summer or winter.

Wonder if they are going to go back to the split season dvd release. Waiting until 09 would push a whole season set to probably late 09 depending when skiffy decides to air the last 10.
Yeah really interested in a Heroes finale buildup, about as exciting as watching paint dry when compared to Lost or BSG.

Why is this so crazy? It's six months people. We had to wait 7 months between seasons 2 and 3 and a whole year between season 3 and 4 (though we did have Razor to hold us over). 6 months is not too long folks.

Just goes to show that SciFi has no idea what to do with a good show.
