The summer movie season. A time of year filled with action, adventure, sequels, big Hollywood stars, big Hollywood explosions, big Hollywood egos and, apparently, TV-related films. In recent times I don't think there have been so many television-related films on the big screen at one time as there will be this summer. We've already seen the release of Speed Racer, the Sex in the City movie comes out next week, and the Steve Carell-starring remake of Get Smart premieres in June.
The last TV-related project to appear this summer will be the long-awaited return of The X-Files to the big screen. Premiering July 25th, the movie, subtitled I Want to Believe, will be directed by series creator Chris Carter and reunite FBI Agents Mulder and Scully in another adventure featuring mysteries not of this world. And, that's all we, the viewing public, know about the film since the plot is being kept hush-hush. Even the official movie trailer, which you will see after the jump, doesn't really tell the fans much about what the film will be about. Heck, it barely features the two main characters of the series.
For some, like Entertainment Weekly's Michael Slezak, knowing very little about the movie's plot is okay as it keeps the anticipation level high for the fans. For others, the lack of information is confusing and angering them at the same time. After you review the trailer let us know if you fall into Michael's camp or the camp of the confused.

Not to sound rude or anything, but this trailer premiered a few weeks ago. It is just now becoming news on here? I would have expected to see something about it awhile ago. And two, a better quality version of the trailer is up on the website www.xfiles.com.

This is the same trailer that was around a week or so ago, right? I didn't notice anything extra...
Upon viewing and re-viewing and one more viewing to try to rekindle the magic, it still doesn't make this 'shipper Phile want to see the film. Not even sure it's necessary to dredge all this up again. It just makes me mad at Carter for the last two years of horrible television that were the last seasons of the X-Files. Why are they doing it? Nostalgia? It won't fix how the show ended. It's not even supposed to. There cannot possibly be any creative reason to need to tell a standalone, monster-of-the-week story in a feature film. That leaves one thing:
Money. Someone somewhere thinks that they can slap the X-Files name on some generic mystery/thriller/horror script and cash in. I suspect that someone is named Chris Carter.

I think its perfectly fine. Why is it that "The X-Files" movie is being singled out as being the trailer where we know nothing? Did the "Indiana Jones" trailer reveal anything much? Not really. Thus is the way these movies work in this day an age. In the world of the internet 99% of projects get leaked. Albums, movies, its nearly impossible to keep anything from getting spoiled. I commend "The X-Files" for manging to keep details so tightly under wraps. However, we still have two months to go. Who knows what might get leaked by then. This movie is for the hardcore fans, just like the first one was. Despite what Carter, or Duchoveny might say to the contrary. If you're a "X-Files" fans you knew you were going to go to this the second you heard the music.

Normally, nobody cares that much about film trailers and whether they give away the plot. This is a different situation: former X-Files fans who were burned by the unsatisfying final seasons and, more importantly, the lackluster first film feature, would like to have an idea what the movie is about and whether it's any good before they invest their time, money, and hearts in it. This movie, in certain ways, is being viewed by many "X-Philes" as a potential "make-up" from Chris Carter for his mis-execution of the last three/four seasons.

Sorry C C, but a "fan" that still feels, after all these years of NOTHING X-Files related, that a trailer has to "validate" the movie in their eyes so they can know if they want to "invest their time and money"...is not much of a fan.
I agree that the last few years of the show sucked. And the movie wasn't that great. But, wow, it's a new X-Files movie! You probably made up your mind about seeing it the second you heard or read the words: "new X-Files movie". I know I did.

Whether or not the trailer has been around for weeks isn't the question, is it?! For me, I prefer trailers that don't give you the entire story in two-and-a-half minutes, including the ending. I'd much rather not know much about a movie going into it, especially a movie like this. If I knew the entire story before seeing it, there would be little point in going. I like to be surprised by a film and I hate the trailers that give everything away. This trailer simply whets my appetite and I can't wait to see the entire movie!

I'm looking forward to the film, but I think that trailer isn't that good - I actually now know more about the film tha I wanted to (Mulder and Scully have been apart for a while, she's not that keen to help her with this, at some point an army gets involved, Billy Connolly's going to get too much screen-time (hate that guy!), and it involves ice and snow, kinda like the last film a bit? But I will see it, probably in the cinema, and I hope it knocks it out the park.

Less is more. Trailers give away WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too much. I'm actually pretty disappointed in Spielberg revealing so much in the Indiana Jones trailer; thought he of all people would know the value of whetting the appetite instead of drowning the senses.
