Just spending five minutes in a random pop culture convention is enough to make anyone realize that fans can be scary. Very, very scary. Of course, being a fan can mean more than just dressing up as a show's most scantily-clad character and wandering around a convention center. It really depends on how you define fan-dedication.Is it all about making an actual impact when one's favorite show is in trouble? Then take into consideration the determined fans of Jericho, who made their voices heard through a bizarre peanut plan and managed save their beloved program (albeit briefly). Or perhaps being a fan is all about spreading the word. The Colbert Report's dangerously devoted Colbert Nation has spread Stephen Colbert's name and persona throughout the world, from minor league hockey teams to Hungarian bridges to the Time 100. There are also the hard-working fans of shows like Lost, who spend incredible amounts of time breaking down each and every possible clue and theory. I dare say they work so much, they often get ahead of the writers. And then there are those fans that patrol the Internet for any negative remarks about their favorite shows and then pounce when they sense fan-injustice. Just last month, our own Jonathan Toomey risked facing the wrath of Battlestar Galactica fans to express his opinion, and he is braver than I for doing so.
Also, keep in mind how the strike-induced TV drought gave fans the opportunity to show their support and demonstrate their dedication to their favorite shows and creative minds. Think about some stand-out moments in which fans rallied together to make that depressing time a little bit more bearable.
So, who do you think were the most dedicated fans of the '07 - '08 season? Comment with your nominations and we'll make a super-list of the season's super-fans.

Friday Night Lights and Moonlight. HIMYM too, but at the same time I don't think people really thought it was going to get cancelled.

The title says all that needs saying . . . the "nuttiest" fans just have got to be Jericho fans. Besides the 50,000 pounds - 20 tons - of nuts, there were also thousands of email, letters, faxes and phone calls and in less than 3 weeks we got our show a second season (albeit a short one). And we are not finished! We are still working on finding Jericho a new and more loving home. If you doubt me, check this out: www.jerichonet2.com We are for sure the most passionately persisent, "nutty" fans!
So, I don't know why you even ask who is the nuttiest.
We not only deserve the title; we are the definition of "nutty fans" !!

Of course, I think the Colbert Nation is the most enthusiastic and wonderful fan base out there. But then again, I'm also a proud member. If you'd like to see what Colbert fans are capable of doing, feel free to check out one of the top Colbert fan sites (which, in the interest of full disclosure, is one where I am webmaster and contributor):

Even without a show this year, I bet the hardest working fans in showbiz are Star Trek fans. So many of them have SHAPED THEIR LIVES around the show, as the two documentaries about their fervor can attest to.
I doubt that any of the shows of this year have fans as active THIS YEAR as Star Trek fans.

I'm going to say the Jericho fans for saving their show by sending a $#!tload of nuts to the network.
Or maybe Battlestar Galactica fans because they carry over two series and three decades worth of nerdiness and crazy.
As for "How I Hooked Up with Your Mom", I really like HIMYM, but you won't see me going out dressed as Marshall for Halloween. I wouldn't even go as slutty pumpkin.

The Colbert Nation is infinitely devoted and loyal to their adopted lifestyle. Being a proud member, I know how far fans will go to bring the public eye in Stephen's direction. With or without just a few hinting words from the man, we will take great steps to give him the publicity and attention he deserves. We have great respect and admiration for him as our inspiration.
Peace and love to Stephen!

I think the Colbert Nation is definitely one of the most dedicated and active fan groups out there. Because of this, Stephen Colbert came in third place in the Time 100 online poll, won a Webby Award, and has a large assortment of things named after him (bridge, ice cream, hockey mascot, airplane, etc.). For more examples of what Stephen's fan base is capable of doing, feel free to go to one of the most popular Stephen Colbert fan sites: www.nofactzone.net

Colbert Nation reporting in.
I'm also a Trekkie, and until I got into Colbert, I didn't think anything would ever top the level of devotion displayed by some Trekkies.
These days, I'm not sure.
Great show... or GREATEST show?

Is this just scripted shows (as in non-competition "reality" shows)? Because if not, I would say American Idol. Fans of each contestant are crazy nuts over their particular fav.
If not, I would say Battlestar Galactica.

Without a doubt, fans of The Colbert Report and our fearless leader are by far the biggest, passionate, and most devoted fans this world has ever seen. Stephen is an amazingly talented performer and comedian and a man who is dedicated to his craft and to making the world smile a bit bigger every night. Do you know of any other TV show host that has a bridge named after them? I didn't think so...

Jericho hands down. There is not one NUTTY group of people (me included) like Jericho who have actually done what we have. 20 tons of NUTS, the last time I saw that many NUTS was Y2K night. We are still going strong and are planning something that no one will see coming.
Peace outlaw2448.

Yeah but you know the Colbert fans use the money to fund projects like books for schools and don't send out perishables to TV networks.
So Jericho fans are definitely nuts in the sense of idiotic whereas the fans of Colbert are nuts in the sense of doing something that's actually worth something. What did the 20 tons of nuts bring us? Another 8 episodes of a useless TV show.

Bash, did you hear what happened to the NUTS we sent?
They were donated to food banks, the victims of the Greenberg, KS tornado, and were sent overseas.
So don't go saying that what we did was idiotic before you get all of the facts.
