We here at the TV Squad offices have been mulling this idea over for years now, and it's finally time we took action. Now that the network upfronts are over and we now know for certain (or, to give some a sliver of hope, near-certain) what shows aren't returning next season, we can start the process of submitting nominations - and then winners - of the TV Squad Awards (or as we sometimes call them internally, The Squaddies).
Over the next few days we'll have posts calling for nominee considerations for each of the twelve award categories. These posts are where you, the readers, should state your case for who or what should be nominated and why. Then, next week we'll post the nominees as chosen by the TV Squad team, along with a poll for the readers. Finally, in two weeks we'll submit the winners as chosen by TV Squad, along with the reader's choice award for each, based on the polls.
The list of awards categories after the jump.
The It's A Paycheck Award (Best movie actor slumming it on TV)
The Brought To You By TV Squad Award (Most blatant use of product placement)
The Arrested Development Award (Least deserving canceled show)
The Put Me Out Of This Misery Award (Renewed show that should just end already)
The Good Riddance Award (Show that was canceled and most deserved it)
The Reality Shows Have Writers? Award (Reality show most unlike reality)
The Jeopardy Award - Primetime game show requiring the most skill
The What the $*%*$% Were They Thinking Award (Biggest casting mistake)
The Adam Finley Award (For excellence in animation)
The Nuttiest Fans Award (Show with most dedicated fans)
The Excellence in Outsourcing Award (Best fake American accent)
The Most Real Unreal Award (Most realistic special effects)
What do the winners get? We've got the finest minters casting a britannium TV statuette for us as I type this. And by "minters" I mean GIMP and by "britannium" I mean #D9D919.

I don't know Matthew Rhys (Brothers & Sisters) and Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) could give them stiff competition.
But let's cross that bridge once nominations are actually underway. BTW, great idea guys!

The It's a Paycheck award is going to be a tough race. So many actors, so much "I need to pay child support" cash to be had.
And the Put Me Out of My Misery Award should just be given now to "According to Jim." Or maybe you can give it the lifetime achievement equivalent, which you could call the Honorary "Full House" Award.

I'm sorry - I liked Veronica Mars too, but it's definitely not in the same league as Arrested Development.

For the "The Brought To You By TV Squad Award"
That Smallville episode with Stride gum comes to mind, and Heroes as well.

I think about last season's episode of The Dead Zone that took place at a horse racing track. It was basically an hour long Visa commercial.

Yes, Smallville with it's Stride gum... I think i see a pack in every episode let alone that show completely dedicated to the product... they also had Chloe driving a car around for a while... can't remember which one it was, Toyota Yaris? But that was definitely blatant like the Stride gum. Smallville's special effects are pretty good, all things considered.
Most dedicated fans = Lost

Arrested Development Award: Journeyman, thinking about the last few moments of that pilot still kinda gets me...
Good Riddance Award: Cavemen. That show was doomed before it even started. Or that horrible "reality" show Nashville. So fake...
Nuttiest Fans: Friday Night Lights fans are few but fierce. HIMYM fans are pretty awesome. And LOST fans are just downright crazy obsessed. And I'm a part of each of those :)
Excellence in Outsourcing Award: Chuck Bass. Oooo :) I'm also kind of impressed with Tim Riggins talking so [sexily] southern while masking the Canadian accent.

Journeyman
According to Jim
Viva Laughlin
Uh...any reality show (except Amazing Race)
Umm....Jeopardy?
Michelle Ryan in Bionic Woman
The only animation I watch is Family Guy
Does it have to be a current show? AD or Firefly for old shows. Jericho or The Office for new shows.
Hugh Laurie for sure
Heroes

"Can I still vote for Arrested Development in the Arrested Development Best Cancelled Show awards?"
Why not? It's the most self-referential show on the planet!
TV Squad: Can you please pester some people just to see if the movie is happening? I know it's probably a long way off but it's still only rumoured at the moment. Please put me out of my misery.
"Can you imagine how jealous that would make her? 'Where’s Tobias?' 'Oh, he’s just sharing a romantic horseback ride with Michael Bluth, and they’re dipping each other in...' Oh, you didn’t get any body chocolate?"

The Brought To You By TV Squad Award *has* to go to American Idol. There's almost as much face time for Coke, Ford, and at&t as there is for the contestants (and more than Paula!)
