(S01E18) That's it. Gossip Girl is done for the 2007-2008 season. The show's season finale left me on my appetite. It didn't end with a huge bang, it didn't left me with tons of questions I wanted answered now, it didn't make me want to rush to the water cooler to chat about it with my friends. Actually, it made me wish that the series had concluded its first season with "All About My Brother," an episode that ended with a huge bang and would have served as a better season finale.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed "Much 'I Do' About Nothing" since it pushed forward the storylines for all characters but I expect my season finales to make me long for September so I get answers. Okay, I'll admit it, I do have certain questions (I'll get to them in a second), but if this had been the series finale, I would have been satisfied even if Serena and Dan aren't together in the end.
This was definitely an episode about couples. They were everywhere! People hooked up, broke up, and patched things up. A lot can happen in a week: Dan and Serena haven't talked; Vanessa and Nate broke up; Chuck and Blair heated things up but, Chuck being Chuck, he went back to his old ways which meant that Blair made a new boyfriend; Lily and Bart are still together; Rufus is still alone.
As I've said before, I'm not mad at the fact that Serena and Dan aren't together right now. They had major trust/truth issues and need some time apart to clear things up and take a step back. Of course, time apart can mean Nate and Serena hooking up again while Dan and Vanessa rekindle things. But I'm willing to have them partner up like this if it means they'll be stronger than ever when they eventually find their way back to one another.
I'm torn about Chuck and Blair's relationship. They are great together as they are a force to be reckoned with but they are also fantastic when apart because they constantly poke one another. Come to think of it, I think I prefer them apart but circling one another. I would like to see Chuck not go to Europe with Blair so she is pissed about him. It would provide good tension between the two next season, especially if she comes back to the Upper East Side with the guy she met while waiting for the helicopter.
As for Nate and Vanessa, I can understand why they broke up but the fan girl in me would have preferred them together. They were so cute and fun to watch in the last few episodes. I hope they patch things up.
What did Lily and Rufus discuss to have her officially decide to marry Bart even if she still has strong feelings for Rufus? The latter seemed quite peaceful with the decision even if a minute before he was all about rekindling things with her. As she walked out the room, Lily looked like someone who wasn't stuck in the middle of two men she loved. Any guesses as to how the conversation went? Personally, I don't think the Bart and Lily's marriage will last long. Her feelings for Rufus will come back rushing sooner or later. It wouldn't surprise me that Lily and Rufus have an affair next season.
Georgina. Georgina. Georgina. She deserved every day she'll spend at that boot camp for troubled girls. Blair was delicious to watch when she explained why the Sparks were there and handed the pamphlet about the camp. Georgina met her match in Blair. Imagine the showdown between the two when Georgina comes back to town and wants revenge for being sent to the boot camp! I can already imagine the Sparks flying!
"Much 'I Do' About Nothing" was a satisfying episode even though, as I've mentioned before, it wasn't season finale material. The episode is mostly about friendships and relationships and the episode delivered in both areas. I can't wait to see how things turn out for the teens and adults of the show (including how Jenny's internship will go and if Nate's father really skipped town). Gossip Girl will return for a second season in September.

I sorta disagree with you. In our current TV landscape everyone wants/expects that SHOCKING jaw-dropping cliffhanger from all their shows' season finales. But there's also something to a finale that leaves everyone at a relatively peaceful place in their lives as a sort of respite from the turbulent drama that went on in the season. And there ARE still unanswered questions and unstable relationships that are just ripe to provide more drama for the next season of this guiltiests of all pleasures.

i agree. a season does not have to end with a big bang revelation. actually, i think there a many loose ends that i am dying to have tied up until next season.

As someone who just a few months back finished watching the series on DVD, this show is basically The O.C. East Coast version. This season finale reminded me a hell of a lot like the first season finale of that show. I know one of the creators is the same, but damn, they don't really try to make much difference between the shows except the locales.
Let's hope this show doesn't follow the same format of The O.C. and have each season basically be a rehash of the one before.

this show is clearly the oc east, schwartz is even behind it! saying that, both shows had amazing first seasons and i also hope that this show doesnt follow the oc's terrible decisions in seasons 2 and 3 (if the cw lets it last that long). the oc was great in season 4 so lets hope schwartz learned from the past and skips over any possible oliver or johnny story lines.
