Gossip Girl: New Haven Can Wait

Gossip Girl(S02E06) "It isn't a game." - Blair to Serena

Game or not, the war between Blair and Serena intensified to a point that both ladies got in a huge hair-pulling fight (see picture on the right). We have seen Blair and Serena say and do really nasty things over the past year but this week, they tapped into their evilest and nastiest of lines and actions (especially Blair when bringing up the "Serena killed someone" bit) in order to end up on top. If both ladies were somewhat at the top of their game, then why was I so bored when watching "New Haven Can Wait"?

Dancing With The Stars: Week 4

Cody Linley and Julianne Hough - Dancing With The Stars
(S07E08) It was an unusual week in the ballroom. Misty's exit last week meant that the week 3 and week 4 scores would be added together for Tuesday's results show. That put some extra pressure on Rocco, who found himself at the back of the pack after that first round. For those week 4 scores, the couples would be dancing either the samba or the tango. It set the stage for some good performances. In addition, along the way, we just might have seen the worst scoring by a judge, ever. A full run down of all the performances is after the jump.

How I Met Your Mother: Intervention

Barney dons old man makeup to try the future Barney trick(S04E04) The first three episodes of HIMYM season four have been uneven, as you might expect at the beginning of a new season. The last two episodes have been funny, but it was mostly missing what made the show so special and attracted such a rabid set of fans. This episode, however, had everything every Mother fan could hope for: Huge laughs, time shifts back and forth, clues big and small about where the story is going to go, and Barney unrepentantly trying to hook up.

Oh, let's just get the Best Barneyism out of the way right now: it's his Future Barney / old man hookup Daily Double. Sure, his not-so-subtle references to his shrink's assessments were funny, as was his continued dalliance with fire-based magic. But Barn (and Neil Patrick Harris) really sold the old man bit, from his voice, to his shaky hands. We knew Barney had a bit of the thespian in him, but he used that skill to its maximum this week.

John Madden parks the Cruiser for a week

John MaddenTwo-and-a-half years ago, I asked the (admittedly) dumb question, "Could Frank Caliendo take John Madden's place?" At the time, my contention was that Caliendo's loopy Madden impression was no longer that far off reality, and that Madden had become such a caricature of himself that Frank could have stepped in and no one would have known the difference.

If NBC Sports president Dick Ebersol had a sense of daring, he could have tried that experiment this Sunday night, as Madden is going to sit out NBC's broadcast of the Buccaneers-Seahawks game in Tampa. The week off was Ebersol's idea; last night's game was in San Diego, making a cross-country trek for Madden and his famous Cruiser (he doesn't fly) right before a week off, as NBC defers to the World Series.

New TV on DVD releases this week

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

Lots of complete series sets this week, including two you probably thought you'd never see, Quark and Ultraman. I have no nostalgic memories of Ultraman, but Quark was a show I enjoyed. It's also neat to see shows like The Shari Lewis Show or DVD.

I wonder why the Back To You set isn't a complete series set instead of just Season 1? Maybe it was already in production before the show was canceled.

  • Back To You - Season 1
  • CSI - Season 8
  • Charlie and Lola - Vol. 1-8
  • The Deputy - Best Of
  • Life with Derek - Season 1
  • Lil' Bush - Season 2
  • Lovejoy - Christmas Specials
  • Nash Bridges - Season 1
  • The Partridge Family - Season 3
  • Quark - Complete Series
  • Rules of Engagement - Season 2
  • The Sarah Silverman Program - Season 2, Vol. 1
  • Scott Baio is 45... - Seasons 1 and 2
  • The Shari Lewis Show - A Shari Lewis Christmas
  • SpongeBob SquarePants - Who Bob What Pants
  • Survivorman - Season 2
  • That 70s Show - Complete Series
  • Ultraman - Complete Series
  • The Unit - Season 3
  • The Universe - Complete Series

Hey, how come 30 Rock hasn't premiered yet? - VIDEO

30 RockInteresting piece in The New York Times that asks the question: where the hell is 30 Rock?

The third season of the show won't bow until October 30, but you would think that the show would want to launch a week or two earlier because of all of the attention that Tina Fey is getting for her Sarah Palin impersonation on Saturday Night Live, her Emmy win, and her new mega-million dollar book deal. So how come the show hasn't premiered yet? They must have an episode or two done for the new season.

McCain gets his priorities straight: Letterman first, then the economy

Mcain LettermanNow that Senator John McCain is doing the most important thing in his campaign to become the 44th president of the United States, agreeing to appear The Late Show with David Letterman, I think we can say that the Straight Talk Express is on the way to being back on track.

It was inevitable, and really, really necessary, for McCain to fix this problem with Dave. McCain was the butt of the joke for nearly three weeks and it hasn't helped his campaign. Appearing Thursday should do a lot to ameliorate his image and in every way it can only be a win-win for McCain and Letterman.

Dexter Morgan makes $47,680 a year

DexterThat's his salary as a police forensics guy, not as a killer.

That's just one of the many revelations in this article about TV character salaries. CareerBuilder.com figured out what each person would make in real-life. For example, Samantha from Samantha Who? makes around $145,000 a year as the VP of a real estate company.

Not sure about the numbers for Mad Men's Don Draper though. It says he would make $41,000, but I'm guessing that means if he was doing it today, not in the early 1960s (because that would be a massive amount of money then). But he's the Creative Director at an ad agency and got a raise, so I'm pretty sure he'd make more than that. Olive on Pushing Daisies would make around $15,000 or so as a waitress (though she'd probably make more if she worked at an upscale restaurant). Other people on the list include Christine from The New Adventures of Old Christine and Olivia Benson from Law and Order: SVU.

Characters not on the list that I'm curious about: Liz Lemon, Michael Scott, and anyone from Heroes, because they never seem to be actually working.

Growing up Brady with sex and drugs

The Brady BunchMaureen McCormick a.k.a. the Original Marcia Brady is releasing her very own tell-all book, Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice, which hits stores tomorrow. It seems that celebrity created for her the usual spiral of drugs and sex and sex-for-drugs as it does for so many other child stars.

I find it interesting how her story contrasts the book released by Barry "Greg Brady" Williams, which I have read. Williams basically described some awkward situations for himself and some marijuana use but never did he describe any of the Brady kids sinking so low. I recall his last line of the book saying that there "wasn't a bad banana in the Bunch".

I wonder if this inconsistency is going to cause conflict between the two Brady ex-child stars (and former boyfriend and girlfriend). It could lead to an episode of Celebrity Boxing. Christopher Knight can be the guest referee, if he can drag himself away from Trivial Pursuit.

Seven Doctors to appear on Children in Need?

Doctor WhoThis should be considered rumor until officially confirmed by the BBC, but apparently the seven living actors to play the character of the Doctor in Doctor Who are set to all appear together in this year's Children in Need special on the BBC.

While I would absolutely love it if this could actually happen, I have to question the veracity of this claim. At least the Telegraph isn't the Sun or I'd dismiss it outright. Tom Baker has historically had a problem with attending reunions (he wasn't in "The Five Doctors", but he did participate in a 1993 special "Dimensions In Time").

Mad Men: The Jet Set

Hamm season 2(S02E11) Roger is starting anew and Jane is the nectar of life, his rebirth. Is Roger grasping for Jane because subconsciously he knows he blew it with Joan? He's ready to sacrifice everything for her, including a chunk of his fortune. "This is the life I was meant to have," he says. I love George the lawyer telling him the cost: "Think of all the good things in life, then cut them in half."

Don is in paradise. Sun, exotic music, a vision of a woman that looks like Betty, but she passes right by him. The devil appears in the form of Willy, the viscount. He's actually pimping out his daughter Joy, although we don't know he's her father till much later. Joy offers Don a way out, a beautiful life traveling to beautiful places, freedom at an epic scale, including the fact that she's not possessive. "You can have anyone you want," she tells him.

Desperate Housewives: Kids Ain't Like Everybody Else

Desperate Housewives
(S05E03) "This guy is up to something." - McCluskey about Dave

There were much better lines said in this week's episode than the one I just put above (more on those lines later). However, what McCluskey said is what has been interesting me the most since the season premiere: what is Dave really up to. We get that he doesn't like McCluskey at all and that he is trying to befriend everyone on Wisteria Lane. But what is his ultimate game plan? Who is he really after and why? These questions, and the fact that Dave is so creepy and well played by actor Neal McDonough, help keep me glued to my TV during Desperate Housewives and make me think that Dave's storyline may turn out to be as good as, if not better, than Katherine's storyline last season.
