Battlestar Galactica: Guess What's Coming To Dinner - VIDEO

(S04E07) I'm going to go out on a limb (no pun ... oh hell, pun intended) and assume it's not a huge spoiler to mention the fate of Gaeta's leg here, before the jump. Most people in last week's poll thought it was "as good as gone," and they were right. The songs Gaeta sang in the infirmary, along with the haunting music of Bear McCreary, were very well done. While we have some minor (and sometimes major) characters dying episode-to-episode, not so much feeling has been put into them as has been with Gaeta's amputation. Sad, yet beautiful.

OK, that was a bit creepy, but you get where I'm coming from.
I'm really much more saddened by the loss of yet another model Six Cylon. I wonder, though, how far away a resurrection ship has to be before it's "too far" for a Cylon to make use of it. Since it was possible for a Raptor to quickly make a jump to the resurrection hub, isn't that close enough? Probably a minor point -- they're too far, and that's all we need to know to understand that this Six is toast, for good.

The execution of the Six once again brings Athena to the forefront (Note: Can someone explain to me why Roslin referred to the Eight in her visions as Sharon, when as far as I could see it was Athena?). She is clearly protecting her daughter, yet she goes so far as to murder one of her own with barely a blink. As some humans come closer to believing the way of the Cylons and accepting them, Athena heads in the other direction.

Six initially remarked that, while the Cylons have changed, the humans have not, which leads her to decide to take hostages as a precaution. Immediately I thought they were being complete hypocrites, though thankfully she wised up quickly and understood they were the ones who were in the wrong.

Detouring from that subject, I have a question about the plan for the Base Star jumping into the middle of the Colonial fleet. Why didn't the Demitrius jump first, radio the fleet with what was about to happen, then the Base Star jump? I guess it wouldn't have been quite as exciting, but it seemed to me a bit convenient to throw some excitement into the mix (which I will admit was cool).

I'm loving the looks on the faces of the four secret Cylons whenever the unboxing of Number Three is brought up, especially Tigh. They do not look comfortable at all with the thought of being revealed as Cylons in front of everyone, nor what the consequences of that means. It would be a nice touch to see a sort-of dream sequence where Tigh blurts out to Adama that he's a Cylon and what he imagines would happen as a result.

Random thought: Lee is looking more and more out of place and uncomfortable in that suit. He'll be in the cockpit of a Viper before the end of the season. Please?

Roslin professing trust in the "new allies" will prove to be a dangerous move if the quorum considers the sudden Base Star jump as a threat. And seeing as Roslin is on that ship, they may consider that punishment enough. And with Balter along for the ride, they'll be partying. I can't wait to see where the hybrid took them all and why she so quickly reacted that way when she was reconnected.

Kara is still being plagued by the "harbinger of death" revelation by the hybrid, and I'm glad they didn't just drop that point so quickly from the past episode. She has to think there's something significant to that revelation, seeing as she knows Roslin's visions are so closely intertwined with what the hybrid was saying. In going to Roslin, she's likely trying to dig a bit deeper into understanding what "leading them to their end" really means.

One final tought: I'm going to have a hard time sleeping tonight after seeing that creepy "bye bye" by Hera.

Two weeks until the next episode! Soon I'll have a recap of all the podcasts Ron Moore's been catching up on this season (I've listed to them all and just need to get the post up). Also, if you've got any questions for Jane Espenson regarding this episode, let me know in the comments.

Quote of the episode:

Tigh: "So which one of them shot Gaeta?"

Population: 39,673 (I'd say -1 for Six, though she wasn't part of the population)

How will Tigh be revealed to the humans as a Cylon?
