Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recently appeared on CSPAN's Q&A and grumpily talked about The Daily Show's childish material. I always remember Scalia as one of the only people that cracked up on camera during Stephen Colbert's 2006 White House Correspondents Dinner performance, so I still like to pretend that he's secretly a TDS/TCR fan. Also, does anyone else here have the America book? My copy has an unusual tendency to open right on the naked Supreme Court when I just randomly pick a page. They must have done something sneaky to the binding."Crisis in Covering the Gas Crisis": The only thing tougher than dealing with the gas crisis is dealing with new and creative ways of covering it. The media has been resorting to cheesier and cheesier "clever" ways of illustrating the news. That collection of Aasif Mandvi's misdirection clips was absolutely hilarious. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at Mid East hostage coverage. John Oliver's appearance was kind of silly, but it's always good to hear him and pointless dirty jokes.
"Indecisionski '08avich: Vodka Vote" (alternate titles: "Rusky Business", "From Russia with Gov"): Russian President Vladimir Putin stepped down, handing over leadership to his former aide Dimitri Medvedev. The new Prime Minister was greeted with Putin's super-sad face, a brute force parade and a strangely long red carpet walk to get sworn in.
The night's guest was Billy Moyers, host of Bill Moyers Journal and author of Moyers on Democracy. I guess he really loves his name. The interview started with discussion on the power of soundbites and then went into some in-depth talk about Reverend Jeremiah Wright. It offered an interesting look to the other side of Wright, which was rather good. Plus, it's nice to hear that older generations haven't completely lost hope in the younger folks.
Moment of Zen: CNN is so desperate for new ways to scare us with gas coverage, they've broken out maintenance's Genie and pulled an Al Gore.

I had a problem with the Mandvi clips. They put dates in the corner like they were actual stories he had reported before. That is usually my cue to know they are being honest. How do I know when to trust them now?

ditto on the book. My book opens up to the naked Supreme Court 8 out of 10 times.
