Medium: Drowned World (season finale) - VIDEO

Jake Weber(S04E16) It's always nice when we get to see Joe's dreams for a change. Luckily for him, they aren't visions of the future.

I am constantly amazed at the strength of character shown by Joe Dubois. Generally characters on TV are very sensitive or have high moral standards. It's not often that they have both. The best part is that while Joe knows that he is doing the right thing and really has no other choice, you can see the frustration and the anxiety in his face. I wonder if Jake Weber could possibly get an Emmy nominee for this role.

I remember once I had an idea for a TV show and someone wanted to pay me $500 to option it. In doing so, they would own the show if someone else wanted to make it and according to the contract, they would only be required to let me be involved and pay me a salary. When I took this contract to a lawyer, I expressed my concern about giving up control of my idea, the lawyer responded by saying, "Is this the only idea you're ever going to have?" I took his point and then took the 500 bucks. However, if I had invented a device that could possibly change the world and the way it powers itself instead of a half-assed TV show, I probably would have held out for more. I know $250,000 is a lot of money, but it's not life-changing money certainly not in comparison to what Joe could achieve. By the way, the show never went anywhere and I blew the $500 on Star Trek action figures

I wasn't too thrilled to see Devalos and Van Dyke all buddy-buddy. I've watched too many scenes on TV where the good guy decides to be the bigger man by trusting his enemy and then ends up paying for it. Van Dyke is a douche and he has earned every feeling of ill will he receives. Manny has always tried to do the right thing and while he has plenty of faults, being too naive was not never one of them.

I suppose you could blame Manny's naivete on the fact that he really wants to be District Attorney again and that's fair, but wouldn't one of his friends at least say something like, "Just watch your back. Van Dyke is not to be trusted?" Moreover, when two of your closest friends are a cop and another lawyer you should be able to rely on their judgment when yours is lacking. I guess that's why it helps to also have a friend who's a psychic.

I wondered when Allison was going to start taking ghost hunting work. I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to ask her. I grew up in Arizona and the wacko level in that state is much higher than the rest of the country (I think it's because of the heat). When Allison became a local celebrity she could have easily made a mint telling people whether or not their home was haunted or any other psychic BS.

As for the dream, I, like most of you, hoped I wouldn't see what I saw. There are very few images more disturbing than an infant being brutally murdered. This season of Medium has certainly raised the bar in terms of memorable visuals but I, personally preferred the more symbolic dreams.

I did, however, love seeing Ollie North on the television. It was a clever and quick way to place the time period of the dream. Well done.

This past season of Medium has not been my favorite but whatever mistakes that were made were more than counterbalanced with this episode. I didn't see any of the ending coming at all, but I am overjoyed to be so wrong. It seems that after a long season of uncertainty, frustration and the horror that is Anjelica Huston's midriff, all is right in the Dubois home. One point I feel compelled to make is that when it was all said and done, the guy who did the right thing for himself and his wife ended up being rewarded and the guy who made a point of hurting people for his own personal gain ended up getting cancer. A better example of karmic justice, I've never seen.

Now that everything is back to normal, what is the next step for Medium?
