Not even a week after it was announced that Jennie Garth would be part of the Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off in a recurring capacity, comes the news that Tori Spelling will also join the "new" 90210 series.Nikki Finke, over at Deadline Hollywood Daily, which was a prime spot for news about the writers strike, reports that reliable sources claim Tori Spelling will reprise her role of Donna Martin on the spin-off.
Finke doesn't reveal more about Spelling's possible return to the famous zip code so it is unknown if she'll appear as a regular, a recurring, or a guest star. Donna could very well be part of the school's staff along with Jennie Garth's character, become friends with the Mills, the central family of the spin-off, or even run the Peach Pit!
Fans of the original series will remember that Donna got married to David Silver in the 90210 series finale so Spelling's appearance on the spin-off could mean the return of a third original cast member, Brian Austin Green.
My reaction to this news is that same as my fellow Squadder Rich: "Why don't they just remove the 'New' from the title of 90210, because it's looking a lot like the old 90210 with many of the original cast returning?" I'm glad to see that there will be some familiar faces on the spin-off but I don't want every single original cast member returning! I want fresh faces, new problems, etc.
Stay tuned to TV Squad for more information about the potential Tori Spelling return to 90210 and more news about the spin-off.
Updated to add: According to US Magazine, Spelling will appear on the show as a recurring cast member.

It looks to me they're trying to use the Degrassi: Next Generation model. New kids with old kids, now adults, dealing with new kids.

I think that a spin-off is a stupid idea it is going to tank just like other spin-offs have. The old cast was the best. The main reason i liked the show was because of the old cast.I think it would be a good show if it was the old cast with a few new people. Like them in there married lives. like dylan and brenda found each other and got married or something like that. like I said the old crew was the best.

This 90210 spin-off is actually the 2nd 90210 spin-off. Melrose Place was the first 90210 spin-off and actually was introduced during 90210 and some of the 90210 characters appeared on Melrose Place's first episodes. MP didn't star any of the 90210 cast and was still a hit. Then again, it didn't have the same premise while this "new" 90210 will (West Beverly High, a central family with 2 kids, etc.).
As someone said before, bringing original cast members as adults worked, maybe it'll work on 90210 too... Only time will tell.

If you are old enough to remember the old cast than you aren't the demo The CW is looking for.

I'm disappointed Tori will join the cast. While I welcome JG back wholeheartedly, I had hoped that Spelling's not-so-subtle-requests for placement would remain just hints, particularly after they cast Wilds and Walker. Spelling still lacks an acting range and her character was never that appealing for me. Man, the more I hear, the less interested I am in watching the new class. I guess it's good that I'm not in the demo range :)
