Stump the King - Paula Abdul

Hey, Hey PaulaIt seems we can't get through a season of American Idol without Paula doing something nutty. Whether it's dating a contestant or giving bad interviews or just being wacky. These events inevitably lead to an allegation that Paula has a drinking problem or is on drugs or something equally scandalous.

Some people seem to get very angry when these allegations start flying. These folks are fans of Paula and AI and therefore feel that they must defend her in any way they can. They make up excuses for her behavior which range from sleep deprivation to technical problems. Unfortunately none of them ever admit the truth:

Paula Abdul is a complete idiot.

Now before you accuse me of being too harsh, let me put this into perspective. Paula is a beautiful woman who has managed to become a popular and successful entertainer and media personality based on her talent for singing and especially dancing.

Her biggest shortcoming, however, is that she is a dingbat. Clearly she is smart enough to make decent business decisions but when it comes to the way she presents herself and her personal life, she has no idea what she's doing. Why else would she have so many horribly failed marriages?

When Paula says something really stupid on Idol, it's only a little more stupid than the thing she said on the previous episode. Quite frankly, I'm surprised when Paula can get through an episode without looking like a dimwit.

In the end, however, Paula is good at what she does and people enjoy watching her. Do you really think Simon Cowell would sit next to her for so long if she were drunk every night? I don't.

Here is this week's trivia question...

When Paula Abdul appeared on Saturday Night Live the first time, who was the host?

Congratulations, Wendy. Duchovny is the correct answer.
