(S04E15) "Do you love Kayla?" - Dr. Joshua Dolan to Lynette
"Mother Said" was quite the eventful episode since it pushed forward all of the ladies' storylines and dealt with two big secrets: Benjamin's and Dylan's parents. It also featured scenes of the four main characters together, which we haven't seen much lately.
Gaby
Even if the Ellie storyline is not the most innovative out there, it at least got more meat this week and got a tad more interesting. For once, Carlos and Gabrielle did the right thing up front and went to the police when they discovered Ellie's business was not a tattoo parlor nor a pastry shop. The Mother's Day gift Ellie gave to Gaby cemented their friendship, thus making it more difficult for Gaby to lie to Ellie so the police can get the information they are looking for. It wouldn't surprise me if Gaby chickens out at the last minute and makes the entire sting fall.
Susan
How annoying was Mike's mother? Susan may have her faults but it was just plain harsh for Adele to list them all in such a superior tone. I had a hard time buying that Adele is Mike's mother. She felt cartoony and her Southern accent was so thick compared to how Mike speaks. I didn't expect Mike to vent like this about Susan to his mother. Then again, Adele does seem to have control over her dear son so she probably knows how to make him spill the beans. I was happy that Susan got her way in the end and made Mike confront his mother.
Now that Susan gave birth, we can move on to storylines of Mike learning how to be a father and Susan actually acting as a mother to one of her children.
Lynette
My hunch from last week is true: Kayla is indeed the Devil's spawn! It's frightening how manipulative she is at such a age. Slapping a child is never the answer but Kayla got it coming for saying such things to Lynette and acting that way. Now that Kayla lied to Dr. Dolan and said that Lynette hit her many times before, the Scavos' household will be divided once again and will require weeks of therapy. Tom will want to protect both Kayla and Lynette but he'll surely wonder if Lynette did hit Kayla more than that one time at the mall. I can't wait to see how that unfolds. Personally, I hope that Children Services decides that it's best for Kayla to live with other relatives for a while. Both she and Lynette need some time apart to rethink things.
Bree
Talk about a war! Edie and Bree are skilled warriors in the art of backstabbing and blackmailing. It did look like Edie won the war when she discovered that Benjamin was Austin and Danielle's son. I didn't expect Bree to spill the beans to her friends so fast. I thought that she would bake a few batches of muffins first and then discover that the only way out was to come clean to her friends.
This week, we definitely saw how strong the four ladies bond is. Not everyone would have accepted the lies Bree said. But then again, they all said lies. It was refreshing to see them march on and support Bree in that final battle against Edie. You go girls!
Katherine
As promised by the show's creator, the cast, and the network, Katherine's secrets are being revealed in the last episodes of the season. Not only is Dylan not Wayne's daughter but, as many of us thought, Dylan is not Dylan (unless Katherine found a way to have scars completely disappear). Is the real Dylan the person buried in the woods? What happened to the real Dylan? Who is that "not Dylan" Dylan? Who? What? When? How? So many questions! Luckily for us, next week is a two-hour season finale filled with answers!

All I can say is, OH MY GOD! That was, by far, one of the most thrilling episodes since Bang! in Season three and Something's Coming this season. I was so impressed!
Lynette's storyline gave me chillbumbs. I can't believe she hit Kayla, but can understand her moment of weakness. Kayla is a troubled, troubled young girl and needs help. Did you hear in the preview for next week they're going to arrest her? Gosh, I hope Tom does the right thing. They're definitely my favorite couple on the street, and don't want to see the marriage end.
Katherine's situation just got more interesting. I thought all along that Wayne was alive, and Dylan wasn't the real girl. But then again, I shouldn't be too quick to say all this, because we don't know everything yet. I can't wait for the conclusion of the story.
I'm so proud of Bree for telling the girls the truth! Thank goodness. She didn't need to have that hidden anyway, and she did the right thing. The girls teaming up to go after Edie was well played, too. I'm not sure why, but I felt sort of bad for Edie. What's going to happen to her now?
The cliffhangers for tonight's episode are a perfect set up for next week. I can't wait to see what happens.
Oh, and one final thought... Maynard? Enough said...

Excellent episode! I heard that Edie was not in next weeks finale so perhaps she is leaving or going to a more recurring status. It's too bad, I love her character but she really has not had much of a storyline lately - more just an add-in to one of the other storylines.
The Gaby/Carlos twist was a welcomed surprise. It will be tough for Gaby to keep the secret, she seems to have bonded with their tenant.
Bree surprised me when she spilled the beans. But in true Bree fashion she could not let someone else, esp Edie, have something to hold over her head. The only thing she could do was tell the story, esp since Orson was prepared to tell it to his lawyer anyway.
Tom/Lynette - Kayla is the devil spawn, I am sure that next week will be very interesting to see how they bring her down.
Mike's mother did seem a bit cartoonish but it fit nicely in the story.
Can't wait for next week - should be a good one!

Does anyone get the feeling that Bree didn't tell the girls the truth? She concocted another lie that makes Edie think she told the truth, and effectively got Edie kicked out of the group so she wouldn't have to admit exactly what she had done. I feel that since they cut the part away, Bree hasn't told the other ladies the truth or all of it.

You made a good point here! After some rethinking, I kinda agree with you. But since the next episode is the season finale, maybe Bree told them the truth after all. I think the producers won't take this arc along to the next season.

i was so glad that, for once, someone on a television show has done the right thing. whenever a character on the show has some big secret and gets blackmailed for it, i always get mad cause the easiest way to cut out a blackmailer is tell the truth, and trust that whomever you spill the beans to is an understanding party. i was so glad that Bree grew a pair and just told the truth. besides, its not like she stole a baby from the hospital.

That whole Tom/Lynette storyline is starting to make me mad. He's all like "You don't love my daughter" and she's all like, "She's the devil incarnate."
I hope that *if* they do arrest Lynette, that he sees that Kayla is just a really troubled kid. I mean... come on, he sees how she is with their kids together...

Good point Sarah... she didn't steal a baby from the hospital...
...I suspect that's what Katherine did (sort of...)

No honor among thieves, or landlord and tenet. Does anyone else think Gaby will rip off the drug dealer so she and Carlos can be rich again?

Is it just me that wants Katherine to stay for another season? Over these episodes she's had some pretty good storylines with Bree and the others and I want to see more of that next season.
I also felt bad for Edie! Is she leaving because of contract issues or because Marc Cheery can't think of anything else for her?
My favorite lines of the evening: When Momma says some of the recipes date back before "the war of northern aggression." Julie: "You mean the civil war?" She replies "I mean what I mean." Ha ha!

According to rumors, Katherine will return next season. I like her as well and I enjoyed seeing her and Bree at it!
Edie is NOT leaving the show. I don't know if you've heard but the show is supposedly doing a time jump of a few years at the end of the season finale. Also, if you look at our DH posts here, you'll find one where I wrote about Sheridan appearing in a few episodes next season.

It's not far-fetched at all; my husband lost his Southern accent when he moved away from home after high school. My MIL, however, has an accent so thick that I avoid speaking to her on the phone because I can barely make out a word she says. And she's VERY cartoony!

I don't know why anyone thinks Kayla didn't deserve that slap! She is so evil. Obviously more than troubled. Of all the characters, Lynnette is the least likely to go there, although seeing where things are headed with the boys, maybe she needed to do the same with them!
