The New York Post has gotten some dirt on big changes for the next season of Weeds. Season four is going to have some major overhauls. The show is about a suburban housewife played by Mary-Louise Parker who has to sell marijuana in order to make ends meet after her husband unexpectedly passes away. It's known for having the song "Little Boxes" played in the intro.
Except that it won't anymore. Gone will be the intro song and the location of the show will change to a rundown seaside California town near the Mexican border. This should come as no surprise to regular viewers since the fictional community they lived in burned down at the end of season three.
Also, it looks like guest-stars Mary Kate Olsen and Matthew Modine as well as regulars Conrad (Romany Malco) and Heylia James (Tonye Patano) will not be returning.
Generally, when shows "reinvent" themselves like this, it's a sign of the show being on the decline. We'll have to see what happens.

Count me out.
Conrad & Heylia were 2 of the best characters.

I agree. Conrad and Heylia had the best storylines and were the most entertaining characters on the show.
I absolutely hated Season 3, and I will have no love for this show the way it's headed if this news is correct. This is so disappointing because the show was such a clever alternative to the drivel on television. Sad.

WEEDS without Conrad is like a day without sunshine. Romany was one of the best on this show. And no "Little Boxes" geez!
This could be the beginning of the end for WEEDS. However, I love MLP and I really hope they come up with something equivalent to the first three seasons.

The season finale way stunning, and if they just made things like they were than the finale wouldn't have a point.
However you need Conrad and Heylia on the show. I don't care they need to be on the show. And that blonde with cancer, she could leave the show, but it looks like she is staying... dear god...
It would be funny if the show did crash and burn and then dropped the shark. The old town burnt down and then the new town is near the sharks.

I'll reserve judgement, Conrad was great but it seemed like there wasn't much more for him and Nancy. I hope Doug moves in next door.

I'm sure the quality will continue. But I will confess I'm very disappointed Conrad and Heylia won't be back. Romany Malco is a fantastic comedic actor.
But I guess the show has to move forward. I'm looking forward to season 4...

I dropped the show halfway through season 3. It IS on the decline. They just kept repeating themselves and were going nowhere.

I agree...Season two, especially the finale, was the paramount of the show, but hey, maybe this reinvention is what they need to bring it back. How bout we all just wait and see what happens....

In all fairness the show went downhill after the pilot. In the pilot there was Celia's other daughter and Doug's gay hooker son. Those characters were then dropped for no good reason.

The intro song im fine with killing.. Not that it isent a great song, and i could have been a "theme song" for the show in the whole series run, if just some dumbass at HBO had gotten the idea to have artists do theire version of the song. That whole thing killed the song for me!
But Conrad and Heylia, how can they keep them out of the show?!

The show is on Showtime.
And it was someone on the show, not the network that came up with the GREAT idea to change the song style every week.

A. The idea to use the song was there from the get go.
B. The producers were not sure they were going to be able to get the rights to the song in the first place so they commissioned all the artists to sing a cover of it.
C. When season 1 rolled out, the original song was available to use so they went with it saving all the cover versions for season 2.

Season 1 was brilliant!
Season 2 was still good.
Season 3 was bloody awful.
So yeah this show is in serious decline. You want to preach maybe people will listen if you write a smart show around it. But last season was just a bunch of political claptrap taped together with thin plotlines and idiotic casting mistakes. The whole point of this show was lost because the writers simply are not good enough. Too bad.

i have to agree. s3 went way way way south too fast. things just got crazier and crazier--yes i know the basis of the show is ridiculous but this season they took that license and ran a muk with it.
i like the intro song and the idea of it changing up every episode or so.

Not to be some flaming positive person about Weeds, but I didn't think season 3 sucked. Sure it wasn't as good as the first seasons, but it wasn't so bad as to tune out. The season got crazier because it mirrored Nancy getting deeper into the drug trade than she ever imagined. And the Heylia character needed to go anyways. Nancy outgrew her. As for Conrad, I hope he shows up because he is part of what made the show so great along with Kevin Nealon.
