I was in the shower thinking about Battlestar Galactica the other day. The thought occupying my mind was: Who is the final Cylon? That is the big mystery this season, after all.The writers of BSG have a huge challenge in choosing the final Cylon. They already shocked us with the season finale last year when we learned that Tigh, Chief, Torre and Sam are Cylons. Who could possibly be more shocking than that? The final Cylon can't be some character who suddenly appears this season and has a major role, just so he/she can be the final Cylon. I truly doubt it's either Pres. Roslin or Adm. Adama because that might be too over-the-top and therefore unbelievable. Of course, the writers could easily take us there over the season and make it shocking, yet believable. (These BSG writers really do rock, don't they?)
So, I thought about it. And here are the five characters who would make a shocking final Cylon:
Zak Adama - This is Adm. Adama's other son. The one who was engaged to Kara Thrace. The shining star in the Adama family. He died during military flight training because Starbuck approved him to fly when he wasn't ready. Zak comes up now and again, but mostly when Adm. Adama looks at photos of his boys. The reason he's included is because his return as a Cylon would rock the worlds of Lee, Kara, and Adm. Adama. Why do I even think about him? It's something Lee said to his dad three episodes ago when they were wondering whether Starbuck is a Cylon. He asked his father whether he'd want to have Zak back, even if it meant he was a Cylon. Foreshadowing?
Billy- President Roslin's former secretary, Billy Keikeya, was a beloved character up until his demise in "Sacrifice" (Season 2, Ep. 16). He was in love with Dualla, remember? Dualla went on to marry Apollo--although it appears that marriage is over. Billy is kind-of a long shot and he died so long ago that his return might just confuse people. Still, he was a great character and it would be nice to have him back. He was such an innocent soul that being a Cylon would be a real shock.
Gaeta- Felix Gaeta is looking like a strong possibility these days. He is filled with hate--for Baltar, Starbuck, and especially for Cylons. He is heavily relied upon by Adm. Adama and perhaps we'll see some storylines in the future where Gaeta gets even closer to the admiral. Gaeta would definitely be a self-loathing Cylon. But, Tigh is already revealed. He's self-loathing and is very close to Adama, so there may not be a need for another Cylon so close to the Admiral. If he's not a Cylon, I have the feeling Gaeta is in for something big (maybe death?) this season.
Lee Adama- We know that Adm. Adama was not present for the upbringing of his two boys. Maybe he wasn't even there for their births. So... they could be adopted, right? The realization that Lee is a Cylon would be frakkin' huge. He's in love with Kara. He is finally on good terms with his father. It would be heart-breaking, really, to learn that he's not human. I want to cry just thinking about it.
Starbuck- It's impossible not to include Starbuck in this list. Where did she go for two months? Why did her Raptor return in perfect condition? Obviously the writers are trying to keep us wondering whether she is a Cylon. There is definitely something special, maybe even mystical, about her. Why has she always painted pictures of the nebula? I'm starting to believe that she is not a Cylon, but she cannot be discounted at this point.
Who am I missing? Leave your theories in comments.

i agree , tom is the front runner for now!
if you have starbuck and lee adama on there, then why not Baltar? duh, he's the most obvious choice.
possible spoiler:
also, if its not tom zarek, then its most prob zoe graystone or ben stark. from the caprica prequel we find out zoe graystone, part of an illegal monotheistic cult, was killed by her boyfriend ben stark in a suicide bombing. but they uploaded their avatars, and zoe's was later used by her parents to create the first cylon.
so, it might be her indeed!

how about romo lampkin?
I always thought he was going to be a FF just cause he worked for Joseph Adama, helped baltar get off the hook, and come one the guy is cool.

Final five have already been stated as not having a downloadable new body. So that throws out Billy and Zak.
I am totally surprised Zarek is not on your list.

That doesn't rule them out though. Maybe it could be physical copies of Billy or Zak, but not their consciousness as we knew them. The final five might have x number of copies already existing somewhere around. A special ship? Earth? Who knows.

The awesome thing would be if not only is was Zarek, but if he's been completely aware of it the whole time.

Doc Cottle. He's been around the periphery of the action
since the start of the series. The other 4 final Cylons each impact a critical need of the fleet and he impacts the health of everyone and doesn't overlap with the other Cylons. Plus he was the one who figured out the half human/half Cylon child's blood would cure Roslin's cancer.

Scott. On New Caprica D'anna had interaction with Cottle while he was out having a smoke during a surgery.

Ron Moore says that the final Cylon is not in that "Last Supper" photograph. If you believe him. The thing that always hangs me up about this issue is Lucy Lawless' reaction when she laid eyes on the fifth one: "Oh my God, I had no idea... forgive me..." Without reading that above link (I dread spoilers), what I have heard is that when D'Anna had not yet been revealed as a Cylon and was being shown around Galactica by Dualla, she was rude and dismissive to her. That's the theory, anyway -- is that what's in the Digg link?
I don't know -- Dualla, even with that suggestive name, doesn't seem "significant" enough at this point.

There is no proof whatsoever that who D'anna saw was the final model. It could very well have been any of the four we already know. Easily enough it could have been Anders or Tigh. Apology to them would be quite easy for taking out Tigh's eye or attempted murder of Anders.
D'anna wasn't really rude or dismissive to Dualla. At first she wasn't thrilled about learning about the ships air recycling system but later Dualla was actually working with D'anna and her camerman on their equipment.

i'd also read that ron moore said that no one in the "last supper" photo was the final cylon. so that takes lee and starbuck off the list. i'd replace them with dualla, zarek and cottle.
as much as i'd like to think it's gaeta (my favorite scene in season 3 was the end of "collaborators"), i'm guessing the final cylon is dualla out of a sense of gender equity (though i still hope it's gaeta).

Zarek is too obvious, everyone thinks it's him now.
And it can't be Starbuck or Lee because they are in that picture, and the sci-fi ad says the final Cylon is not. Of course that could be a trick to throw us off.
I doubt it's Billy because if he stayed with the show he would be in Torre's (That's how you spell it?) place.
I think it will be a completely new character that just happens to know how to play the piano.

Except that RDM has mentioned that the final cylon is someone who has been around from the beginning so therefore it is someone we have seen.

Oh I haven't heard that, but it would make sense.
Of course he could be lying to just throw everyone off.

when RDM said the final cylon has been around from the beginning, i think he meant the beginning of the cylons, thus its definitely zoe graystone.
he didnt say "the beginning of the show" did he? he just said "the beginning" !?

My Chemistry teacher overheard my friend and I talking about BSG and ended up knowing more than either of us combined. With what he said, I think Billy can be ruled out
He pretty much said that when BSG management tried to sign him up for the long haul after season 1, he said he wasn't sure if he wanted a long term commitment. They said if he felt that way they couldn't write storylines for an uncommitted actor, and killed him off instead
Because of this, it sounds to me like they wanted to keep him around but couldn't. But if you think about it, who took over Billy's role? Tory. Who ended up being a Cylon? Tory
In my opinion, Billy would have ended up being a Cylon had his character not been killed off. Seeing as he's dead now, and one presidents aide has already ended up being a robot, I think he missed his chance
