ABC News is reaching out to younger viewers by starting on-campus bureaus at five of the nation's colleges. Set to open this fall, the bureaus will give journalism students the chance to produce broadcast and digital content for several ABC News shows and to report on local news stories. In addition to training and mentoring opportunities, core members of the team will receive annual stipends. The first ABC News On Campus bureaus will be located at Syracuse University, Arizona State University, University of Florida, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and University of Texas at Austin. Each bureau will consist of mainly upper-class undergrads and graduate students, but all students are encouraged to submit their own ideas and suggestions for content.
This is a beneficial arrangement for the journalism students, younger viewers, and ABC News. Unfortunately, I don't see how anyone else stands to benefit from this partnership. My college's media outlets weren't exactly pillars of truth and professionalism. It's great that students are getting this unique opportunity, but it doesn't make network news any more appealing for me.
What do you think? Are these on-campus bureaus good for anyone other than college students?

Why do the common people want to listen to these elitist kids with their "ideas"? They need to set up bureaus at popular bars and bowling allies, because that's where the common man spends his off hours.

This is the TV equal to FaceBook. It isn't journalism.
