If you're a regular viewer of CNN's Larry King Live, you know that's not an Onion headline. Seacrest has filled in for Larry King several times over the past few years, usually on pop culture-oriented shows, and now it looks like Seacrest wants the gig permanently.
MSNBC "The Scoop" column is reporting that the American Idol host is in secret negotiations to take over for King, and the change could take place as early as the end of this year. Of course, this goes against the recent news that King had signed a contract extension through 2011, but that contract doesn't necessarily guarantee him the 9 pm slot, just that he'll stick with CNN in general.
Actually, if King has his way, Seacrest would be the one who would take over for him when he steps down from the show. He's said several times in the past that Seacrest would be his choice. If he gets the gig, this would be the 35th job that Seacrest will have in the entertainment biz (TV, radio, production). And they say Howard Stern is the King of All Media.
I wonder how Katie Couric feels about this?

One could take from this that Seacrest is perceived to have more cred than Couric (correct or incorrect). That's gotta hurt.

Larry King is a joke, he knows nothing about the news, or maybe that's the fact he's been over 100 my whole life.

well I stopped watching Larry King when he became all tabloid...having stupid people on his show like Criss Angel that have no news worthy value at all...now Ryan Seacrest ? Wow, CNN is just losing any credibility they ever had. They should just give it to Anderson Cooper, who could at least bring back some class, even with all his preening.

Larry King has been throwing softball questions to his guests for years, so he has lost any credibility he may have once possessed. I stopped watching him ages ago, Seacrest has no credibility either, so it would be a perfect fit.

Now I feel bad that I used the "hot tranny mess" line on the Project Runway story above. I should have saved it for Ryan.

I remember when Larry King was good. It was when he was doing his radio show and I didn't have to see his face, and he actually talked to callers.
