With just two episodes left in the current season of Saturday Night Live, fans are eagerly awaiting news about the final host. Yeah? No? Just me? All right.Well, Me, good news! We knew Shia LaBoeuf and My Morning Jacket would be taking on the May 10 episode in what will most likely be another youthful crowd-pleaser, but here comes word that the final episode will be hosted Steve Carell and musical guest Usher. Yeah, that ol' dream team. Both LaBoeuf and Carell will be on their second hosting stints and, if their first times were any indication, they will deliver strong performances. I mean, assuming the writing does justice to their comedic talent.
LaBoeuf last hosted just a little over a year ago. Apart from "Dear Sister", the Digital Short send-up of The OC's Frou Frou moment, it was a fairly unmemorable episode, mainly due to some weak writing. Maybe this time, the staff will work extra hard to please the freshest face in the Indiana Jones franchise. This ain't no Transformers.
As for Mr. Carell, he first hosted way back in 2005 in the season premiere, and he did a pretty solid job. His performance came as no surprise from a man with an incredible sketch comedy background. I vaguely remember a cute opening number during his monologue and a Ray Ramono impression during the episode, but that's about it. Now that Carell really has made it to the comedy big time that he sang about in his episode opener, it'll be interesting to see if he can close this strange SNL season with a bang.

I'm excited about Shia hosting again despite the lackluster first outing. "Dear Sister" was pretty funny.

in general, snl was really bad this year.
The hosts weren't anything new.. just a lot of mediocre/young talent (amy adams, ellen page, jonah hill, ashton kutcher) or currently employed NBC/Universal TV/film stars (steve carell, tina fey, brian williams, seth rogan).
Is it too much to ask to have some quality talent guest? Whatever happened to movie star guests? Where are the movie stars? B TV stars just dont cut it.

Demi Moore's "appearance" was the low point for me. But I laughed really hard watching SNL this season - more than watching anything like "Everybody Hates Chris" - "The Game" - "Back to You" - "'Til Death" - "The Simpsons" et cetera. All those sitcoms just made me go "he he he". I watched season 9 of "Seinfeld" the last couple of days and really had to laugh there a couple of times. The NINTH season mind you. The last one. They really went out on a high if you ask me and none of the currently airing sitcoms come anywhere close to that. So SNL for me is really a must... but I hear all those who say it is unbearable in parts. It really really is, some stuff like the "Courgars" sketch just takes ages to sit through but then you end up with sketches like "I slept with your dad, Ashton Kutcher" or the "Country Songs with beer jars spaceships et cetera" at the end of the episode and you laugh your ass off :-)
I really can't understand people who ask for SNL to be taken off the air. It is a show that has its extremes which I find more interesting than the "meh" of so many other "sitcoms".
Honestly, "The Game" or "'Til Death" aren't even sitcoms. They aren't really funny. meh

I thought I was a pretty regular SNL watcher but for some reason I can't remember seeing Carell on there before.

I miss oddball character actors as hosts -- going all the way back to the first season. Desi Arnaz, Broderick Crawford, Strother Martin, Maureen Stapleton, Harry Dean Stanton, even Robert Mitchum. It always seemed to inspire the writers to create sketches that weren't interchangeable with This Year's Starlet or whoever.
