There have been approximately 400 stories written about CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric in the past few weeks: she's thinking about leaving, she's getting her lowest ratings ever, etc, etc. And now TV viewers are weighing in on what Katie should do.

A Gallup Poll asked 1,016 adults (I'd love to hear why they come up with such numbers, why they didn't keep calling until it was 1100 or at least stop calling at 1000) what Katie should do. And you know what? 46% of respondents say she should stay as anchor of the show! Where are those viewers when she needs them?

Here are some other results from the poll:

- Katie should return to a morning show: 35%
- Katie should be on 60 Minutes full-time: 28%
- Katie should replace Larry King over on CNN: 17%
- Katie should host a daytime talk show: 8%
- Katie should open up a muffin shop in Frenso, CA: 6%

OK, I'm just kidding on that last one (though I'd rather see her do that than host a daytime talk show).

I wonder about Katie leaving. No idea on who would replace her if she left (for the record, Les Moonves is standing by her and says she's not going anywhere). I think that unless Brian Williams or Charles Gibson comes over to take over for Katie, then the CBS Evening News is always going to be in third place. And then what will the Katie-haters say when that happens?
