Get your paper clips and elastic bands out because there is a MacGyver movie in the works! According to the Dark Horizons website, MacGyver creator Lee David Zlotoff announced over the weekend at Maker Faire 2008 that a big budget movie based on the series was in the planning stages.
Sadly, he revealed no specifics about the movie other than he got the movie rights a few years ago and has total control over the movie.
It is unknown if Richard Dean Anderson will star in the movie yet. Since prequels and movies featuring young versions of action heroes are popular these days, it wouldn't be surprising if they decide to go that way with the MacGyver movie as well. However, I would prefer seeing Anderson in the lead role. He did show us about two years ago that he still had the goods to portray the character in that Mastercard commercial titled "MacGyver Returns - A Narrow Escape" (see video below).
In preparation for the potential movie, we suggest you buy the official MacGyver paper clip.

Richard Dean Anderson is 58 years old. I loved him in the TV series, but I think maybe the role should go to someone a little younger--in their late 20s or 30s, not a near-teenager (let's make it BELIEVABLE). On the other hand, Harrison Ford is 66, and he's got a new "Indiana Jones" movie out.

If its not RDA, its not MacGyver. RDA could still pull off MacGyver, just like Harrison Ford can still do Indiana Jones. I don't need or want some new hot shot actor taking on that role. By the way, whatever became of that announced "A-Team" movie?

There was already a failed "young" MacGyver series.
RDA should be in this. No other choice is good. After loving him in Stargate for years, he can definitely pull it off. His older age should have no bearing on his ability to pull it off. If nothing else, Mac should just be even more smarter and crafty.
