First How I Met Your Mother went for ratings gold by casting Britney Spears in an episode (and another). Ugly Betty is following suit - with none other than Hollywood's poster child for poor choices and bad ideas: Lindsay Lohan.
Rich actually reported on this way back in November, but nothing came together. Blame the WGA Strike or the frequent trips to rehab ... take your pick. Variety has now confirmed that Li Lo will guest star in the upcoming Ugly Betty finale. But it doesn't stop there. The original plan for her arc to span three episodes has been upped to six. So she's going to return next season for five more. Lohan will play an old schoolmate of Betty's. The catch? Apparently she used to be a real bitch to the now successful Miss Suarez. Lohan's character is down on her luck, and Betty being the nice gal that she is, can't help but lend a hand.
This strikes me as a bit odd. I only casually follow this show, but it seems like ever since the show's regime change, things have been a bit shaky. The casting of someone like Lindsay Lohan just doesn't seem right to me. Thoughts?

I have followed this show (except the last 3 episodes which i havent gotten around to see yet) But from what i have heard it looks like they are going a little overboard with the famous guest stars. Dident they just have the winner of Project Runway and Naomi Cample on ?

I don't like this idea. If Lohan stars as a character, that means she doesn't exist as Lohan in the celebrity-infused universe of Ugly Betty! They can't do that!
Have there already been any references to her? I wouldn't be surprised.

I hate this. I hate that Ugly Betty is doing that. Can't they understand that not that many people like Lohan anymore, she is so over. All the things she has done, she keeps doing them over and óver again, and it's like she expects us to keep following her, to actually care. We don't care about a former movie star who looks like she is 40 years old while in fact she is only around 20. She can't act. WTF is UB thinking? Of ALL the celebrities they could have gone with, they choose HER!?

I'm disappointed as last year Ugly Betty had a focus - contrasting the reality of Betty's world with the unreality of fashion publishing. It did a good job of balancing reality: Betty's father's green card, Hilda's ex, family difficulties, Justin's sexuality & the publishing world with the soap opera-bits: 'Faye', the Meades, & evil Salma with a dash of ironic humor thrown in. Even Wilhemina's evil was really uber-ambition back then.
I don't know if it's still following the telenovela, or not, but the show doesn't seem to have a focus anymore after they dealt with the 'difficulties' of last year and have turned to stunt-casting: Posh, Naomi, Lil Bow wow, and now LiLo. I'd prefer if they just returned to focusing on writing good scripts. Betty's family members don't really have their own storylines anymore and I'd love to see them return to Mode as a fashion mag -

Really "stunt-casting" is a great word. Thats how I feel about the whole thing. Call me crazy but I watch ugly betty for betty. I thought the whole reason they were cutting some of Romijn's screen time was to refocus the show back on what makes it so great. But I guess it was just to make room for more guest stars.
I could live with a cameo as her self but seven bloody episodes is too much.
