(S06E12) As a result of adopting (and by adopting, I mean bird-napping) a parrot from the veterinarian's office, Peter becomes a pirate. The sad part was that it wasn't even International Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day.Actually, that's not really what the episode is about. It's more about Chris' pursuit of a vet intern named Anna. While Chris' pursues Anna, he gets advice from Peter and the gang (which, as the history of the show has proven, is never a good idea).
The pirate segment of the episode wasn't very good and seemed out of place. Fortunately, it was very short. Despite its use in the promos, it was kind of forgettable. I did enjoy the car chase bit involving "sugar cane, tobacco and spices". The car chase itself seemed like something of a cross between a pirate movie and a video-game.
I did like the fact that the British driver was on the left side of the road, which is the correct side in England. It made for a better sword fight that way.
Once the episode focused more on Chris and Anna's attempt at a relationship, things got interesting and the show was more like the style from before it's cancellation.
It was nice to see the whole gang of Cleveland, Quagmire and Joe appear in the episode, even though they had minor roles. Enjoy your Cleveland appearances now since he'll be having his own show soon.
Segments from the show that were funny:
- When Chris, upon seeing Anna, breaks out into the song "Crazy For You" from the movie Vision Quest that was performed by Madonna.
- The vet's name "Doctor Jewish".
- "Over the next 90 minutes, all your problems can be solved by my penis".
- Peter attempting to get rid of the dead frog.
- Stewie showing up in drag on Chris' blind date.
- Chris' method of finding a way back to the vet's office.
- Brian's completely messed up face and body after Chris used aforementioned method of getting back to the vet.
- Michael J. Fox as Zorro.
- The Family Guy reason behind the murders of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman.
- The first attempt to get Brian sick by lifting up Meg's shirt.
This episode marks the end of this season of Family Guy. This was probably as a result of the writer's strike. Only 12 episodes were in the season and the remainder of the ones written but not produced are being used for the next. On a positive note, the DVD set for the season should be cheaper. As a result of all this, the episode didn't feel so much like a season finale as rather just another mid-season episode (albeit a good one).
With that in mind, this season finale was a high note. While it certainly wasn't as strong as the opening Star Wars parody episode (which, truthfully, is pretty hard to beat as the season's best), I'm hoping this episode is a sign of the show going back to its roots of using more character development and fewer free-associative gags.

I agree with pretty much your entire list of what was funny about this episode. Overall I felt bleh about it. Peter has become extraordinarily annoying to the point that he sort of pisses me off now. I've become more of a fan of the "Stewie & Brian" episodes of this show. And I'd like to see more episodes focused on Meg, who has been criminally under-utilized since Family Guy returned to FOX.

Any scenes where Family Guy mocks 80's music, I'm fine with. I like hearing various characters attempt to sing.
Sigh... otherwise, it was a bit of a bland episode. The Pirate thing was self-indulgent. I can see the artists sitting there saying, "Boy, I've always wanted to animate a pirate fight between cars including cannons" (Yes, that is how they talk, in broken English). And then, a day later, they're working on it because that's the best they can come up with.

Call me crazy, but this was the funniest episode of Family Guy EVER!! i say this because i was constantly laughing...the way they all laughed after long john peter said something...the way chris hit brian with a chair...the way brians nose was off to the side...the joe crying ringtone...this episode was perfect after perfect...if that makes cince....i never laughed so hard at a TV show...i was tearin up i promise...thass juss my 2 pennies...

Ugh....this episode was funny, but it seems like American Dad has been consistently funnier this season than Family Guy. And American Dad's Tearjerker Bond spoof was funnier than Blue Harvest.

I am totally on board with you man, this episode was just long and boring to me. I sat there waiting for a laugh out loud moment and all I got were two or three "heh" moments. I didn't like the frog part because it was way too long and the payout was not nearly as funny as it could have been. All the random cutaways were simply awful, with the OJ one and the stupid "Let's change something random about a random movie and pretend it actually happened" jokes falling the flattest.
American Dad was great...how come there's no American Dad section on TV Squad??? What's up with that?

I felt the exact opposite. I enjoyed the pirate segment of the episode but felt things really slowed down to a crawl when that ended. And that's also where the questionable bits of material crept into the show, such as the Michael J. Fox joke (didn't think that was too funny) and the OJ joke (didn't think that was funny either, until they had OJ go on and on and on about how much he loved both of the victims and was going to be an usher in their wedding). The jokes about Joe's sex life were funny, as was Quagmire's 'accidental' sex with an underaged crossing guard. But Chris' dates were pretty bland, and were just setups for a single joke that was hit or miss. Stewie walking in in drag was kinda funny, Peter's version of Men At Work... not so much. As if anyone knows the real words to that song anyway!
Another funny bit, from the pirate segment of course: when the panicky pharmacy guy (I forget his name, but he's Neil's father) sees the pirates crashing through the window and yells out "kristallnacht!" Best Jewish joke on FG since the "I Need a Jew" song.
I also vote for American Dad reviews! As long as you don't bring King of the Hill with it.

It was good, yes, but a little disappointing that they ended the season with it, and we will be waiting so long for more new episodes. I've seen some of them way too many times.

This was a very uneven episode for me. There were a good number ofparts that made me laugh but a lot which were not that funny in myopinion. I liked the Zorro joke, Chris beating the crap out of Brian(with the Stewie kick at the end), Stewie showing up at Chris' date,and Joe's sex. Didn't like the whole pirate thing, OJ simpson, and
the frog. I agree we need both American Dad and King of the Hill onhere. I can write em if u want, no, ok just thought i'd put it out there. Uh - oh Tvsquad looks like we got those weird advertising screennames peddling dating sites, might want to get on that
