ABC is turning back to an old favorite, hoping to rekindle some comic magic for the network. Funny, irreverent and -- two snaps and a swish -- occasionally brilliant comic Damon Wayans has been tapped by ABC for a new single-camera sitcom pilot called Never Better. Damon starred as a family man in the five-year hit My Wife and Kids, doing a Cosby-esque turn from 2001-2005.The new show, Never Better, is being directed by Marc Buckland (My Name Is Earl, Ed) and centers on another family man, only in this incarnation, Damon is a guy who's struggling to be a good father and spouse despite his flaws and mistakes.
On paper, it doesn't sound much more interesting than According to Jim -- and that has never been worth watching. (Are you listening, ABC?) However, if Wayans weighs in with his particular brand of sharp, biting and sardonic humor -- think of some of his amazing characters on In Living Color -- than Never Better could be something wonderful.
One other thought, with only the likes of Tyler Perry's House of Payne and Chris Rock's Everybody Hates Chris currently on the air, it will be nice to welcome another comedy to the TV scene starring an African-American star.

Is he the one who has the skit on his website dealing with a "superhero" who goes around punching pregnant girls in the stomach to rid their boyfriends of obligation?

LC: If people knew about his role in "Abortion Man" I doubt they would be yearning to see him play daddy in a sitcom. His "sardonic humor" is not appreciated by women who have been victims of violence.
