Easter eggs are part of the fun of watching Lost. Symbols, numbers, and names can all have multiple meanings and connections to the story. Repeat viewing is a must for the detail-oriented fan. Doors have become particularly significant sources of information on the show. Season Two's blast door map revealed the names and locations of several DHARMA stations on the island. This week's episode brought another door into the Lost mythology.
Leave it to Ben to have a secret room next to another secret room. We already saw the secret room filled with passports, foreign currency, and suits. After a dramatic confrontation with Keamy and the mercenaries, Ben went to another hidden room and did something that fans are still talking about. I'll save the details about second room's door, and what was written on it, for after the jump. Spoiler Warning: Stop reading if you haven't seen "The Shape of Things to Come."
The inquisitive minds at DocArzt's Lost blog recently decoded the hieroglyphs on the door. Symbols for summon, power/protection, time, master/priest, life, and stone container were visible. Their initial translation is "to summon protection," but they leave room for other interpretations. "Time to summon strength" is a possibility, as is "time summons the power of life."
The first translation makes the most sense to me. When Ben emerged from the secret room, the Black Smoke Monster appeared. It was strongly implied that Ben chose to sic the monster on the mercenaries that killed his daughter. I'm wondering if this room also holds the island's other capabilities, like healing and the "magic box" (the power to bring what you desire to the island). I know that there isn't an actual box, but this power could be centered in that room ("the power of life").
What do you think of these translations?

i wonder if it also holds the power to transport you not only through time, but space as well, since that seems to have also been revealed last week...

My theory-
That room is what allows Ben to travel forward to "real" time, and the 2 men he killed in the opening scene were Freighter mercenaries.
If Smokey is fate course-correcting, then it would all fit in (as those men were killed in "real time", and therefore had to die on island time).
Remember: Keamy is not dead (or at least I don't think he is) - he appeared in the preview for this week's ep.

Makes you wonder...wasn't Locke's dad all dirty and grimy, kind of like Ben was after he got out of the secret-secret room, when he was shown to Locke on the island?
Maybe it's just a room to get people dirty.
