WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! MAGICAL SPOILERS!
On today's edition of Oprah, which many people in the country have already seen, magician/stunt artist David Blaine attempted to break the world record for a person holding their breath. Did he actually do it? The results after the jump.
Yup, he did it. Blaine held his breath underwater for a world record breaking 17 minutes and 4 seconds. He then died. No, just kidding, he lived! This incredible feat breaks the old world record held by a man in Switzerland (16 minutes and 32 seconds), which was actually just set a couple of months ago.
I'm glad to hear he did this underwater. When I first heard several months ago that he was going to do this, I wondered if he was just going to stand on stage and hold his breath and we'd never know if he was really holding his breath or not. But since it was underwater I'm sure there are ways to tell.
What should Blaine do next?

"He then died."
As flippant and as illogical it would be to put a statement like that right in there, my hearts skipped for just a moment. Not funny :-)
No, I'm not a Blaine groupie or even a fan. You just caught me off guard. Geez.

Yes, the way to tell is that he didn't drown.

Let's send him to the moon on a 1-way ticket & see how long he can hold his breath there.

Hopefully he does another street magic special at some point. Just today I was thinking about the trick where he put a playing card on the inside of a restaurant window from a sidewalk outside. HOW DID HE DO THAT!?!?
His street magic is awesome... I prefer it to these once a year "Big stunts".

I agree, his old street magic specials were the best.

His street magic is an exercise in clever editing. I can't watch more than 30 seconds of it. Same with Chris Angel's crap.

The only way to have made this story a happy one was your statement "And then he died." It put a huge smile on my face. I say we bury him in a casket underground for 4 years and see if it breaks his won record.
