Did David Blaine break a record on Oprah today?

David Blaine

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! MAGICAL SPOILERS!

On today's edition of Oprah, which many people in the country have already seen, magician/stunt artist David Blaine attempted to break the world record for a person holding their breath. Did he actually do it? The results after the jump.

Yup, he did it. Blaine held his breath underwater for a world record breaking 17 minutes and 4 seconds. He then died. No, just kidding, he lived! This incredible feat breaks the old world record held by a man in Switzerland (16 minutes and 32 seconds), which was actually just set a couple of months ago.

I'm glad to hear he did this underwater. When I first heard several months ago that he was going to do this, I wondered if he was just going to stand on stage and hold his breath and we'd never know if he was really holding his breath or not. But since it was underwater I'm sure there are ways to tell.

What should Blaine do next?
