Gossip Girl: Desperately Seeking Serena

Gossip Girl
(S01E15) "I made one mistake. It doesn't mean I need a human ankle monitor." - Jenny

Back in early February, I told you what I thought of Gossip Girl so far. Starting this week, I'll review GG on a weekly basis. What an episode to start reviews with! Since I've never read the books the series is based on, I had no idea who Georgina Sparks was but I had a hunch that she was not daddy's little girl. I didn't expect her to be so twisted and evil.

Oh, the drama Georgina brings! (Note that she'll continue to bring drama for three more episodes.) She caused chaos last week with her "gifts" and continued wrecking havoc this week by trying to have Serena go back to her old ways. Georgina has serious issues to deal with; she drinks, she uses drugs, she acts out, she back stabs, she drugs her friends (well, she at least drugged a friend), etc. According to Chuck's sources, Georgina should have been in Switzerland. Could it be that the young woman also ran away from where she is really supposed to be? Kudos to the casting crew for having Michelle Trachtenberg agree to this four-episode gig. She gave a very good performance that totally made me believe in Georgina and hate her like I was supposed to.

Even if Georgina brings Serena's bad side, I'm happy to see her in NYC because it means we may learn the real reason why Serena had to leave the city. Serena should follow Chuck's suggestion and tell the truth to Dan. The latter was "Desperately Seeking Serena" this week and has yet to find the girl he fell in love with. If Serena doesn't get her act together soon (and her speech to Georgina at the end of the episode shows that she wants to), she may lose Dan to... Sarah! I must admit that I didn't see that one coming but when the scene unfold, I was not surprised to see a pissed off Georgina go for Serena's man.

This was a big episode for young Jenny too. It's not easy for her to try to remain Queen B when being grounded and having a human ankle bracelet (aka Rufus) follow her around. Rufus showed once again how a great dad he is. He cares about his kids a lot and knows that he must spend time with Jenny in order to bring her back down to earth. Since Blair bonded with the girls during their little Nelly project, Asher better be filthy rich to get Jenny back on the throne. My little finger tells me that Asher will turn out to be a jester and not the king Jenny wants/needs him to be.

Other tidbits of interest:
  • Chuck was totally being Chuck when he hired those people to take the SATs for himself and Serena. However, he showed he could be a true friend by bailing her out twice.
  • Nate and Vanessa look very good together. After seeing this episode, I want them to succeed as a couple. Of course, only time will tell if I'll change my mind and if they'll work out.
  • Asher totally knows how to win parents over. I wonder how many times before he said his "I wish more parents would ground their kids" speech.
  • "If I go down, you go down with me." - A pissed off Serena to Georgina

Who should be Queen B?
