(S04E13) "Everyone has a reason for not following the rules." - Mary Alice
Things are definitely moving forward on Wisteria Lane. This week, we found out who set Rick's restaurant on fire, Mike finally discovered that Orson ran him over, Dylan met her father, and Edie actually made sense!
When writing last week's review, I was pretty sure Rick set his own restaurant on fire. But thanks to your comments, I was reminded that the Scavo brats were capable of such a thing. They love their parents so much; it's not surprising they tried to get rid of Rick. Lynette and Tom have a lot to discuss now that the twins admitted they set the fire. Will they go to the police to say the kids did it? If they don't go, what will they do so their children learn that there are better ways to solve problems?
No matter what Tom and Lynette decide to do, the Scavos are in dire need of a good family therapy session: Tom and Lynette have trust issues, the twins need to start behaving or they may end up seeing the inside of a jail when they grow up, Kayla must start accepting Lynette, etc. Parker and Penny may be the only one who can get a "skip therapy" pass.
It was about time Mike learned that Orson was the one who ran him over two years ago! I expected Mike to ask for explanations and Susan to act up when she learned the truth. What I didn't expect was how Bree reacted to the ordeal. Bree did pretty bad and evil things over the years, so I thought she would somewhat forgive Orson and have him sleep on the couch for a few weeks. After all, Bree is all about appearances and calling it quits with Orson means her family is not perfect. But as Mary Alice reminded us at the end of the episode, certain rules are not meant to be broken. Personally, I would have shown the door to Orson too but I thought that in Bree's book, "running over the then-boyfriend of one of my friends and sending him in a coma" didn't mean that you got the instant boot especially when Orson knows a lot of Bree's secrets, including that Benjamin is Danielle's son.
As expected, the mystery man from last week turned out to be Dylan's father, Wayne. I missed about ten seconds of the first conversation Dylan and Wayne have at the diner. Did she tell him that she thought he was dead and believed that Katherine killed him? Even if Wayne said the truth about hitting Katherine and didn't want, at first, to see Dylan behind Katherine's back, I still get a bad vibe from the guy. There is more than meets the eye and I can't wait to see it unfold. Wayne also said that there was another side to the "I hit Katherine" story. What is there? Is he referring to the body buried in the woods or another secret altogether?
I still didn't care much about the Gaby/Carlos storyline but I must mention Edie's speech to Gaby. Edie may be known as the Wisteria Lane tramp but the woman actually made a lot of sense this week. Carlos did change a lot due to his blindness and he is too proud to admit it. Gabrielle wasn't seeing it as she was too busy thinking of her needs and what she was losing while trying to help out her husband. I'm glad Edie put some sense into Gaby. Even if I'm ready for Gaby and Carlos to move to another town, I think they are good together and Edie helped cement their relationship.
Other tidbits of interest:
- Bree telling Susan about the empty box trick. If Bree puts a box filled with emotions in an empty closet everything emotions are flowing, how many closets do you think she has?
- Even if there was little Bree/Katherine interactions this week, the scene they were in was fun. "Creative friction" allowed them to throw a great ball but it also had Bree poison Katherine. The latter is willing to risk being poisoned again and uses shameless emotional blackmail to get what she wants!

Kayla set the fire.. mark my words.. Kayla is old enough to do it and i'm not sure why she isnt showing up. At first i thought Tom told the twins to tell that they set the fire to their mother but that just seemed so low even for Tom. Dylan's dad seems so creepy! I'm not really sure he is her dad! It looks like he's in love with her or something

I'm glad I'm not the only one getting the creepy vibe from Dylan's "father."

I'm not sure he is her biological father either. I think it's time for Katherine, Dylan and Wayne to go on Maury Povich's show and do the lie detector test and the DNA test!

i dont find it so hard that Bree kicked Orson out. i believe she told him that she wanted a normal life. she threatened to kick him out before, so really she is just keeping to her word. After her husband died and it coming out that he was sleeping with the town prostitute and her son being gay, i dont think Bree cares too much about appearances over how Orson probably broke her heart.

Of course you'll get creepy vibes from dad... he manipulated Dylan just like Ben manipulates Locke.... didn't you see the smirk on his face when Dylan suggested they sneak around behind Katherine's back... of course that's what Dad wanted to do.

You have the word "reply" on the bottom left of posts (not responses to posts). If you use Internet Explorer, it's possible you won't see the word BUT if you move your mouse over the bottom left corner, you'll notice there is a link there.

The only big shock was that Bree kicked Orson out. I figured he was a couch sleeper there for a while too.
But shoot... I thought he would lie to Mike about it too...

You're praising Edie in this episode. I wouldn't be so hasty in giving any kudos to to her. Did you see the previews for the next episode? What Edie does next is beyond ridiculous.... I won't spoil it here, in case people didn't see the previews.

I know Edie has a few evil tricks up her sleeves next week but since moments where she actually makes total sense are rare, I must praise her when they occur. ;)

I don't think Gary Cole is Dylan's real father. If he were cast in the role, why would they have had a different, heavier guy play Wayne in the flashbacks that Susan's cousin had of Katherine hitting her husband? I get more of a creepy stalker vibe from him especially after he conned Dylan into believing it was her idea not to tell her mom about meeting her "dad". I don't know--- I'm guessing they'll throw some crazy plot twist out there that nobody was expecting.

Like Valerie, I also had doubts that Wayne is Dylan's father.
I'd already seen the Edie-Gaby scene on Ellen (it was a bit of a spoiler). Both times it seemed out of character for Edie, and yet a) deserved by Gaby and b) cool of Edie. I liked the line, "I know, how about you DON'T do those things?"
Even though the Katherine/Bree scene was small, it was necessary. I'm glad they got it out on the table, with Bree pointing out how the almost killed each other over flower arrangements and how she almost poisoned Katherine.
I'm not sure how I feel with regard to the poll. If they'd stolen a pack of gum from a store Lynette would march them back. Setting fire, though? I think she might, but I think she might not. Fire isn't a pack of gum.

I hope Bree would take Orson back. They're so good together. Have you guys noticed how Bree has loosened up a bit while being with him?
I wasn't really surprised by Edie's talk with Gaby. I've always thought of her as a no nonsense woman. Does what she wants and says straight what she thinks.
